The Training & Technical Assistance (T2) Center at the University of Connecticut is Connecticut's Local Technical Assistance Program, one of the 58 centers in the United States. Our mission is to foster a safe, efficient, and environmentally sound surface transportation system by improving the skills and increasing the knowledge of the transportation workforce in Connecticut. The T2 Center provides education and technical assistance to members of Connecticut's Transportation and Public Safety Community.

It’s the final week of the Fall 2026
Public Works Academy in Burlington and Storrs! T2 Instructors Bill Eyberse and Neil Roback spoke with attendees about winter operations and safe snowplowing. A sander calibration demonstration and blind spot demonstration were completed to provide participants with a deeper understanding of these topics. We look forward to seeing everyone again at the T2 Center Graduation!

🚶 October is National Pedestrian Safety Month! Let’s help keep every generation safe, because someone’s grandma is counting on you.

Drivers: slow down, stay alert, and always watch for pedestrians. When approaching a crosswalk, yield to people crossing and leave plenty of space so other drivers can see them, too.

A little patience behind the wheel can make a lifesaving difference. ❤️

👏 Yesterday, we were in Newington for the final day of TLP Cohort 10’s Pay It Forward Project presentations!

Participants shared thoughtful projects designed to support their colleagues and communities across Connecticut. Just a few examples included:

• A call-to-action article encouraging Public Works Directors to prioritize administrative staff training, paired with resources for new hires and succession planning.
• An information card for CTDOT trucks to guide crews responding to on-the-job crashes, emphasizing calling 911 immediately.
• An app that replaces paper restoration lists with a searchable system for tracking outstanding work, documenting field conditions, and updating progress through completion.

Every project was impressive, and the care, thought, and effort behind each one truly showed. It was wonderful to see participants turn what they’ve learned in the CT Transportation Leadership Program into practical resources others can use!

We look forward to celebrating everyone who completed their projects at the T2 Graduation in November! 🌟🎓

Traffic Signal Academy participants are in Cheshire today for the 2026 Traffic Signal Hot Topic Roundtable! 🚦

Leading today’s discussion are Andy Mastrogiannis, Project Manager with The NY-Conn Corporation, and John E. DiBiasi, P.E., Assistant Town Engineer for the Town of Manchester.

The roundtable brings Connecticut’s traffic signal community together to explore timely topics, ask questions, and share best practices for maintaining and improving traffic signal systems.

Today we are wrapping up the fifth week of the Fall 2026 Public Works Academy! T2 Instructor Scott Yeomans covered work zone safety and provided ATSSA Flagger Certification training. Attendees then put what they learned into practice during a tabletop exercise. Each group received a different project scenario and worked together to plan an appropriate work zone set up.

Yesterday in Wallingford, the Connecticut Association of Street and Highway Officials (CASHO) held its annual Snowplow Safety Road-eo. It was an exciting day for all!

The T2 team was onsite helping facilitate the test track as participants showcased their snowplow operating skills. The day was filled with friendly competition, shared best practices, and a focus on safe winter operations.

Road Master Program participants have been in Watertown these past two days with T2 Instructor Adam Drummond for the Confined Space Competent Person elective workshop! 👷‍♀️👷‍♂️

Participants are reviewing OSHA requirements, entry procedures, common hazards, and rescue and retrieval practices while learning the responsibilities of a competent person overseeing confined space entry. A simulated entry demonstration shows how gas detection meters, rescue equipment, harnesses, and ventilation devices help support safe operations.

Last week was week 4 of the Fall 2026 Public Works Academy! Attendees received valuable insights into electrical safety from Warren Rogers, C.S.P., and learned about chainsaw safety and storm cleanup from Bill Girard. The class concluded with demonstrations on storm cleanup techniques and chipper safety.
