The Doll-Master Book Club

Looking for something a little creepy to read this October? Join us as we discuss The Doll-Master and Other Tales of Terror by Joyce Carol Oates. This collection of short stories is full of eerie characters, unsettling situations, and the kind of endings that stick with you long after you've finished reading.

Whether you're a fan of horror, psychological suspense, or just enjoy a good spooky-season read, we'd love to have you join the conversation. Open to UWS students and employees.

Fill out our registration form to sign up. Registrants can access the ebook and/or audiobook through Hoopla. Physical copies are no longer in print, but you can request a copy through interlibrary loan to check out.

What AI Tools are enabled in various library systems? Can AI help with citation discovery? How Can AI Tools like ChatGPT be used with library resources? Can AI Tools like ChatGPT be used with library resources??

This interactive session will engage these questions by introducing library AI tools; attending to query building with GenAI tools such as ChatGPT and Microsoft CoPilot; and examining strategies and workflows for literature and citation searches and summaries.

Join us in the Library, Room 231, or UWS users can register to join by Zoom (The session will not be recorded. Due to the session’s interactive nature, participants are asked to please refrain from using AI transcription).

Open to UWS Faculty, Staff, and Students; Community members are also welcome to attend in-person.

Participants will leave the session able to:
Construct and analyze search strings using Generative AI tools such as ChatGPT.

Incorporate select Library AI and other Generative AI Tools into research workflows.

Identify additional Generative AI tools that may additionally support research workflows.

Understand aspects of publication and vendor licensing and rights restrictions as they apply to the use of Generative AI tools in select research workflows.

Library Learning Outcomes: Learners grow their own unique knowledge by evaluating the scope and limits of their knowledge and investigating who and what can support their growth; Learners apply search choices and strategies appropriate to the scope and constraints of their study.

Words That Built a Nation: A Constitution Day Reading

Jackets Vote, a program of the Link Center, along with the Pruitt Center for Mindfulness & Wellbeing and the Jim Dan Hill Library invite all students, faculty, staff and the surrounding community to this Constitution Day program on Thursday, September 17 from 5-7pm in the Jim Dan Hill Library. A curated display with books available for checkout along with FREE pocket constitutions is also provided.

Join for a special Constitution Day program celebrating the words and ideas that continue to shape American democracy. Through a community reading and reflection on key passages from the U.S. Constitution, participants will explore the document’s enduring significance and consider its impact on civic life, rights, and responsibilities today.

Free parking, beverages, and refreshments will be provided!

This event is part of UW-Superior’s Superior Dialogues series. Superior Dialogues is UW-Superior’s nonpartisan civil discourse and dialogue series that brings together students, faculty, staff, and community members to engage across differences and discuss complex issues constructively. Through workshops, speakers, facilitated conversations, and community events, participants build skills in respectful dialogue, free expression, viewpoint diversity, and civic engagement while strengthening understanding and connections across the community.
