The oral doctoral examination of Ben Valen, candidate for the Ph.D. degree, will be held on Monday, August 17, at 11 a.m. via Zoom.

Valen’s advisor is Professor Sara Burke. The dissertation examining committee will be composed of Professors Leonard Newman, and Sarah Woolf-King. Professor Emily Thorson will serve as chair of the defense. The title of the candidate's dissertation is: “The Effects of Bias Attribution, Target Identity, and Perceived Political Ideology on Blame, Punishment, and Negative Evaluation of Discriminators."

Join us in congratulating Emily P. Rabinowitz, PhD, on receiving the 2026 Society for Health Psychology Post-Doc Clinical Award, a national honor presented by Division 38 of the American Psychological Association.

Dr. Rabinowitz is a postdoctoral researcher with the Center for Health Behavior and Psychology (CAS) and the Institute for Veteran and Military Families.

This highly competitive award recognizes outstanding early-career contributions to clinical health psychology. Being selected places Dr. Rabinowitz among a distinguished group of emerging leaders in the field and highlights the impactful research and clinical work taking place at Syracuse University.
