🏙️ What does it really take for a city to turn a smart idea into lasting change?

New research from Professor Austin Zwick, PhD and colleagues examines Canada’s Smart Cities Challenge and what happened after communities developed ambitious plans for using technology to improve local life.

The findings show that competitions can spark innovation, collaboration, and community engagement, but without long-term funding, technical capacity, and institutional support, that momentum can be difficult to sustain.

🤖 How is Generative AI reshaping the work of English language professionals?

New research by David Patent, David Lind, Amy Walker, Olga Oganesyan, Jeff Jiang, Haley Berl, Tara Manion and Kelsey Gillette explores how educators and staff are navigating GenAI together, from efficiency and professional identity to ethics, authenticity and responsible use.

Their findings show that integrating AI is about more than learning a new tool. It also raises important questions about human judgment, transparency and the evolving role of educators.

🌎 From 20 countries to Syracuse University, 26 Fulbright Scholars spent four weeks on campus preparing for graduate study in the U.S. while building connections, experiencing American culture, and becoming part of the Orange community. 🍊

The Fulbright Pre-Academic Program combines academic preparation with cultural experiences, including host family dinners and trips around the region. As International Programs Director David Lind shared, these experiences create a cultural exchange that goes both ways and reflect the heart of the Fulbright mission.
