The Department of African American Studies seeks a dynamic scholar to serve as Department Chair beginning Fall 2022. The successful candidate will possess a strong record of scholarship; teaching excellence; experience overseeing departmental administrative procedures and governance; demonstrated skill in collaborating with faculty on curricula and programming for undergraduate majors and minors and graduate students; and a commitment to community engagement.
The position requires a Ph.D. with a principal research and teaching focus on aspects of Black life in the Americas, the Caribbean, Africa, or Europe. Scholars in any field of the humanities or social sciences are welcome to apply.
Candidates who have met the standards for the rank of professor with tenure are preferred. However, full consideration will also be given to applications from advanced tenured associate professors.
