National Public Health Week - Day 5!
Today's theme is "Rural Health"
Rural communities often face significant health disparities related to poverty, food desserts, environmental hazards, limited resource availability, and limited healthcare access.
Rural living Americans have higher rates of cigarette smoking, diabetes, and high blood pressure. Youth living in rural areas also face higher rates of mental illness and occupational injury from farm work.
Public Health, Healthcare, and other professions must work to build community capacity for our rural living communities in order to best promote and protect the health of all.
