Humphrey Fellowship Program provides ten months of non-degree academic study and related professional experiences in the United States. Humphrey Fellows are selected based on their potential for leadership and their commitment to public service in either the public or the private sector. The Humphrey Program fosters a mutual exchange of knowledge and understanding about issues of common concern in the United States and the Fellows’ home countries. The Program offers Fellows valuable opportunities for leadership development and professional engagement with Americans. Humphrey Fellows come to the Maxwell School to pursue studies and professional development work in the areas of public policy, public administration, non-profit management, leadership and collaboration. The goals of the program are:

-to enable each Fellow to develop a program that fosters personal and professional growth and prepares the Fellow for leadership roles in his or her country.

-to provide opportunities for a rich exchange of information among Fellows and also between Fellows and host families, community members, professional colleagues, as well as students and faculty at the Maxwell School.

-to help Fellows understand as broadly and deeply as possible U.S. cultural, political, legal and economic systems; and

-to help Fellows develop a fuller sense of global context in which we all operate. In collaboration with Syracuse University faculty members and alumni, a network of affiliated professionals, host families - and the Fellows themselves - the Humphrey Fellows Program at Maxwell provides an extraordinary environment for cross-cultural learning.

It was a perfect early autumn day for our annual Day in the Country with Humphrey Families & Friends. Thanks to Humphrey Family Swiat and Nancy for their hospitality and delicious lunch!

Syracuse Humphrey alums attended and participated in the Humphrey Global Policy Dialogue last week in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The theme was on Security, Trade, and Strategic Infrastructure in South and Central Asia. Muhammad Suleman Khan (Pakistan, 2025-2025) served as an Alumni Lead and Fawad Hasan was a Facilitator ( Pakistan, 2021-2022) for two different sessions.
Other alums who attended included Sambasivam Sutharsan (Sri Lanka, 2017-2018), Ananya Sinha (India, 2021-2022) and Sanam Rasool (Pakistan, 2023-2024).

Humphrey Fellows were out in force volunteering Sunday at the 33rd Annual Westcott Street Cultural Fair. The event celebrates the neighborhood near Syracuse University with a parade, performances, music, food and community organizations. The annual event attracts thousands from around Central New York.

During the Humphrey Alumni Global Policy Dialogue in Quito, Syracuse Humphrey alumnae from Ecuador reflected on their Fellowship experience and time spent at the Maxwell School. Alejandra Pozo (2023-24), Ana Marcela Paredes (2012-13) and Elena Marchán (2011-12) also had the opportunity to connect with Mary Johnson, Academic Exchange Specialist, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, U.S. Department of State and also a Syracuse University alumna!🍊

Humphrey Fellows volunteered at the Samaritan Center where they helped serve an afternoon meal to more than 200 guests. The Sam Center serves hot meals 365 days per year, no questions asked. It was an opportunity for Fellows to experience the important role both nonprofits and volunteers serve in the community.

Welcome to our new cohort of Humphrey Fellows! Among the highlights of orientation were the first leadership seminar (with a visit by Humphrey director Angel Fang), brainstorms for Fellow-led sessions, a boat tour on Skaneateles Lake, meeting our Humphrey Family & Friends at a picnic at Onondaga Lake, an economic development walking tour of downtown Syracuse, and so much more! We can't wait to see how they'll generate impact in our communities, their countries and so many places in between.

The Humphrey Fellows wrapped up their time on campus with reflection and connection. After a transformative year of professional growth and discovering lifelong friendships, they're heading home to make lasting impact in their home countries. Never goodbye, just until next time!

Syracuse Humphrey Fellows spent the afternoon at the Samaritan Center serving dinner to guests. They learned about the Center's mission and deep dedication of staff and volunteers alike.
That day, more than 225 meals were served to guests who showed up, no questions asked.

We're thrilled to welcome to the 2025-2026 Hubert H. Humphrey Fellows to the Maxwell School and Syracuse University!
These past two weeks were spent getting to know each other, the Humphrey Fellowship program, Syracuse University and the Central New York region.
Looking forward to the many ways Fellows will make an impact in the region and beyond.
