Humphrey Fellowship Program provides ten months of non-degree academic study and related professional experiences in the United States. Humphrey Fellows are selected based on their potential for leadership and their commitment to public service in either the public or the private sector. The Humphrey Program fosters a mutual exchange of knowledge and understanding about issues of common concern in

the United States and the Fellows’ home countries. The Program offers Fellows valuable opportunities for leadership development and professional engagement with Americans. Humphrey Fellows come to the Maxwell School to pursue studies and professional development work in the areas of public policy, public administration, non-profit management, leadership and collaboration. The goals of the program are:

-to enable each Fellow to develop a program that fosters personal and professional growth and prepares the Fellow for leadership roles in his or her country.

-to provide opportunities for a rich exchange of information among Fellows and also between Fellows and host families, community members, professional colleagues, as well as students and faculty at the Maxwell School.

-to help Fellows understand as broadly and deeply as possible U.S. cultural, political, legal and economic systems; and

-to help Fellows develop a fuller sense of global context in which we all operate. In collaboration with Syracuse University faculty members and alumni, a network of affiliated professionals, host families - and the Fellows themselves - the Humphrey Fellows Program at Maxwell provides an extraordinary environment for cross-cultural learning.

Besides welcoming new Humphrey fellows, another favorite occasion is welcoming Humphrey alumni as they pass through town!
2021-2022 alum Burhan Rasool (Pakistan) stopped by with his family to say hello on their way to visit Niagara Falls. They're pictured with Executive Education Director Steve Lux.

Syracuse Sunrise Rotary Club has been a wonderful partner with Humphrey Fellows. Throughout the program year, Fellows presented about their countries and volunteered with the group in December to help families in need. Rotarians recently gathered with fellows to celebrate exchange and friendship one last time before Fellows complete their program.

2022-2023 Syracuse Humphrey alum Niño Alvina and current Humphrey Fellow Wesley John Gonzales are two of our Humphrey family from the Philippines. Niño was in Washington, DC as a representative of the Philippine Department of Finance to attend the ESRI conference and was able to connect with Wesley, sharing memories of Maxwell.

Cornell Humphrey Fellows welcomed Penn State and Syracuse Fellows to their campus for a cross-campus collaboration where they reflected of their Humphrey year and the re-entry process. In addition to sharing highlights and challenges, fellows had the opportunity to perform a 2-minute skit of some aspect of their Humphrey year and consider some case studies in small group discussions. Laughter and bittersweet memories filled the day (along with some snowflakes!).

Humphrey Fellows volunteered at the Food Bank of Central New York, helping to fill more than 1,100 bags of food for school students. Kids take these food packs, which are filled with breakfast and lunch items, home for the weekend to supplement meals while they're not at school.
Chief Development Officer Lynn Hy provided background about the Food Bank’s mission across its 11-county region, the network of food banks within New York State and their role as part of the national Feeding America.
Last year, the Food Bank distributed 22,264,010 pounds of food, the equivalent of
18,553,341 meals (50,931 meals/day).
