Congratulations! 👏🏽👏🏾👏🏿👏🏼 Kerry Greene-Donnelly, MBA, RT (R) (M) (CT) (QM), chair and associate professor of Medical Imaging & Radiation Sciences, program director of Radiograph, is recipient of the Avers-Meguid Endowed Award for Excellence in Shared Governance.

This award recognizes a member of the Faculty or Professional Staff who has shown sustained service and outstanding leadership in shared governance to the University.

The nominee must demonstrate sustained record of involvement in shared governance that may include but is not limited to: demonstration of excellent problem-solving and negotiating skills; initiation, development and implementation of proposals; fostering inclusion and cultivating collaboration, and mentoring in governance.

Eligibility extends to any member of faculty or professional staff (non-M/C) who has demonstrated sustained excellence in service in shared governance.

A current officer of Faculty Council (chair, vice-chair, or secretary) is not eligible, except at the conclusion of their term in the office.

Congratulations to Upstate alum Willie Underwood III, MD, MSc, MPH, who has sworn in as the 181st president of the American Medical Association (AMA)! Dr. Underwood is a urologic surgeon based in Buffalo.

Willie Underwood, MD, was honored by Upstate’s Medical Alumni Foundation with the Outstanding Young Alumnus Award in 2009 in recognition of his research on healthcare disparities and his work in health care policy.

Assistant professor of microbiology and immunology, Mobin Karimi MD, PhD, "was awarded $461,000 in NIH R21 funding from the National Institute on Aging to support an innovative two-year research project. His study, 'The Role of β-Catenin in Lung ILC2 Function,' examines how a key cellular pathway, β-catenin, helps these cells protect the lungs from viral infection, particularly in older adults."

Dr. Mobin Karimi’s highly ranked NIH-funded project will investigate how key immune cells protect against viral infections and why those defenses weaken with age.
