The Brothers of Kappa Kappa Psi - Eta Phi want to celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month!

After AAPI week was extended to a month in 1990, May has been a time for celebrating cultures spanning over 75 countries and cultures from East, South, Southeast Asia, and the Pacific Islands. These communities have helped shape the US, and we as the brotherhood want to celebrate this and recognize the AAPI community in our chapter! Shout out to Brothers Ben Gross, Jaidev Jain, and recent graduates Rhitwik Karmakar, Ronny Gattuso, and Holly Ishiro Randall!

Why did you join the SUMB/ What do you love about the SUMB?: I did marching band through high school and knew I wanted to go to college with a big band. The SUMB allowed me to study exactly what I wanted and get that big college band experience !
Why did you join Kappa?: The brothers of Kappa in my section (go bonezone) are some of the best people I’ve met since getting to college, and I was interested in the opportunity to continue supporting the band I am in through service!
Favorite band memory so far?: Playing on the quad show and knowing I finally had all the music down was an amazing moment for me. Every quad show was so much fun, and it made me realize the band makes me feel like I’m right where I should be!
Congratulations Derrick! We can’t wait to see what you accomplish! Good Luck! 💙🤍

Why did you join the SUMB/ What do you love about the SUMB?: I didn’t have a marching band in high school (NYC things 😭), but my high school band teacher was part of the SUMB and always spoke really highly of it. That made me want to give it a try. From the start, the vibe had been super friendly- everyone is so welcoming, and I loved how quickly I was able to make friends within my section it’s honestly felt like a community right away!
Why did you join Kappa?: I joined Kappa because I wanted to be part of something that benefits the band while also being involved in service. I really value the sense of community and brotherhood that Kappa provides, and I wanted to become more involved in something I truly love!
Favorite band memory so far?: Getting to go to San Diego California, and winning the holiday bowl there!
Congratulations Isabella! We can’t wait to see what you accomplish! Good Luck! 💙🤍
