Larry Roundtree is a high school senior at Syracuse ITC who is taking classes on the OCC campus as part of the SMART Scholars program. He was inspired by his sister's fatal illness to become a doctor.

Today, Roundtree is a senior at the Institute of Technology at Syracuse Central (ITC), where he is studying biotechnology. He is also a college student at Onondaga Community College, taking advantage of OCC's SMART Scholars program, which allows high school seniors in any pathway to take college courses on campus and earn college credit while completing their high school education.

This semester, Larry is taking three classes at OCC and four additional college-level courses at ITC through Syracuse University's Project Advance. "My mission was to graduate high school with 50 college credits. With Smart Scholars, I'm going to graduate with 65. It's a lot, but I can handle it."

Irielle Mwija is a 32-year-old mother of 3 who will complete her Electromechanical Technology degree in December. 🔬

Mwija immigrated to the US in 2020 and enrolled at OCC in the fall of 2024 after learning about the College through a local bridge program. Although she already held a bachelor's degree in Financial Management from her home country, she chose a completely different path at OCC: Electromechanical Technology.

"When I heard about going into this at OCC, I said, 'Bingo!' This was a dream for me when I was so young, but I didn't get a chance until the chance came to me. I can still do it and show my kids that no matter your age, you can still achieve."
