Join us for a conversation between two women of color football players to close out Women’s History Month. Our very own Logger linebacker, Lily Godwin ‘26, will join guest speaker Dr. Melanie Rouse, a 2025 WFA Division III national champion, in conversation about their experiences on and off the field.
In 2024, Lily became the first known woman to make an unassisted tackle in NCAA football history, all while earning a degree in English and a minor in African American Studies here at the University of Puget Sound. She spent all four years on the Logger football team, has worked as a Resident Assistant on campus, and calls Arizona home.
Our guest speaker, Dr. Rouse, is a sports performance coach, and she serves as the Maternal Mortality Projects Manager for the Virginia Department of Health’s Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. Her research focuses on social determinants of health and racial and ethnic disparities in maternal mortality. She manages Virginia’s Pregnancy-Associated Mortality Surveillance System, coordinates the state Maternal Mortality Review Team, and has been recognized by the Alliance for Health Policy as a government expert on drivers of maternal mortality. She also volunteers with the March of Dimes Virginia Maternal and Child Health Committee. Dr. Rouse will visit two classes on campus to share with students about this work.
After the conversation, we will have a short dessert reception to celebrate Lily’s historical Logger moment. In addition, we’ll highlight other moments in Logger athletics where women have made history. Join us for this (her)storical moment!
