This , meet the ‘Louis Philippe’ rose, blooming on campus near the Memorial Garden!

Native to southern China, this rose was first introduced to the West in the late 18th century. 🌹 Known for being one of the easiest roses to grow, ‘Louis Philippe’ features beautiful matte-green foliage with excellent disease resistance, making it a lovely addition to the landscape. 🌿

Tucked beside Mina Jo Powell Green, the Memorial Garden, also known as the Friendship Garden, offers a quiet place for reflection and remembrance. 💚

Established in 2000 through the efforts of FSU-Student Government Association leader Susan James, the garden honors the students who have passed away while attending Florida State University. Designed by FSU Grounds and Landscaping Associate Director Anton Sonkin, the space incorporates repurposed materials, including recycled curbs, gutters, and sidewalks.

With shaded seating and the gentle sound of a trickling fountain, this special campus space serves as a lasting tribute to the lives and memories of those who will always be a part of the FSU community.

There’s a lot that goes into keeping a facility running safely behind the scenes. At the Morcom Aquatics Center, our Facilities team recently tackled important electrical and mechanical work, replacing breakers and a rooftop fan to help keep the building’s systems operating reliably.

From the mechanical and electrical rooms to the rooftop, every part of the job comes with its own challenges—and safety is a priority at every step. The right protective gear and procedures help our team work safely while taking care of the infrastructure that keeps campus spaces running.
