Our HSMAI student chapter recently had the opportunity to visit Tampa to learn about hospitality!

At Hotel Flor Tampa, students learned from hospitality leaders and explore the guest experience firsthand. Thank you to Asa Harris, Director of Sales & Marketing, and the Hotel Flor team for welcoming our students and investing in the next generation of hospitality professionals.

The students also had the chance to visit the Visit Tampa Bay office with the help of Patrick Harrison, Chief Marketing Officer, to learn more about the tourism industry in Tampa.

We recently welcomed industry professionals to our fall Career and Internship Expo to connect with aspiring hospitality professionals at FSU Dedman College of Hospitality. It was amazing to see such engaging conversations happening throughout the event and we can't wait to see where these connections lead.

Matthew Swezey graduated from the Dedman College in fall 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in hospitality management. Today, he serves as executive chef and co-owner of Black Radish, the Tallahassee restaurant he helped open in 2022.

Black Radish is known for its seasonal, vegetable-focused dishes, handmade pastas, and locally sourced ingredients. In July, the restaurant was selected for the 2026 MICHELIN Guide.

We are proud to see a Dedman alumnus leading a restaurant recognized by the MICHELIN Guide. Congratulations to Matthew and the entire Black Radish team! 👏

Ready to take your internship overseas? 🌎

Applications for Dedman’s international internship opportunities open today! Students selected for the program have the opportunity to spend six months living and working abroad with hospitality partners in Ireland and New Zealand. Internships typically run from mid-May through November, with opportunities in areas including front desk/rooms, housekeeping and food & beverage.

Finding your right major often starts by being open to new experiences. Each opportunity to get involved, make connections, and try something new can reveal a passion you may not have known was there.

For Megan Muma, that willingness to get involved led to experiences across different areas of the hospitality industry. Her time with the FSU Student Union, the Disney College Program, and Marriott Vacations Worldwide helped her discover that events are where she feels most at home.
