A little trip back to campus in 2005📸

These photos from the Facilities archives capture the Grounds & Landscaping team hard at work caring for campus and creating the landscape that generations of students, faculty, staff, and visitors have enjoyed. A lot has changed in 20 years, but one thing hasn’t: our crews are still out there every day planting, pruning, maintaining, and caring for the places that make campus feel like home.

What was a day’s work for the team in 2005 has become part of the campus memories of everyone who walked these paths. Here’s to the people behind the scenes who have spent decades helping keep campus beautiful.

Our Grounds & Landscaping team recently laid new sod around the entrance to the track facility, giving the space a refresh and keeping the area looking its best. It’s one of the many ways our crews help care for the campus spaces where FSU students, athletes, and visitors spend time. From planting and pruning to maintaining the landscape, there’s a lot of work happening behind the scenes to keep campus looking its best. 💚

These young trees are Silver-dollar Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus cinerea) and Cabbage Gum Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus amplifolia), recently planted along the west side of Mendenhall B. 🌿 They’re still getting established, but keep an eye on them as they grow into a new part of the campus landscape!

Originally planted in 2008, many of the Cabbage Gum trees have weathered Tallahassee’s occasional freezes and bounced back each spring. We recently added Silver-dollar Eucalyptus along the west side of Mendenhall B to fill in gaps and give these sun-loving trees plenty of light. And yes, their fragrant leaves are the same eucalyptus you’ll find in floral arrangements and home décor!

New trees are taking root near the Circus and Dick Howser Stadium! 🌳

Our Grounds team recently replaced the crepe myrtles near the Circus and Dick Howser Stadium, planting new trees in the same spots as the previous ones. The replacements will bring back the color and character these trees add to the area as they grow and mature.
