Our DI Volleyball Setter of the Week is Emily T***s from, you guessed it, Daytona State College! These girls are on a roll this week!

A sophomore from Wesley Chapel, Florida, she averaged 8.9 assists over 20 sets this week. Emily also recorded 0.9 kills, 0.4 service aces, 1.3 digs, and 0.2 blocks. She helped Daytona State to a 5-0 week by notching 24+ assists in each match, highlighted by 42 vs. Tyler and 44 vs. Panola.

Our DI Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week is Karina Crespo from Daytona State College!

A sophomore Libero from Deltona, Florida, Karina averaged 5.9 digs over 17 sets this week. She also posted 0.3 assists and 0.4 service aces per set. Karina helped the Falcons sweep their five-match road trip to Texas by recording 14+ digs in each match, including 28 vs. Tyler and 25 vs. Panola.

Happy Tuesday! We are back with a new set of Players of the week! First up is our DI Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week, Yuseiry Ramirez from Daytona State College!

A sophomore Outside Hitter from Santo Domingo, D.R., Yuseiry averaged 4.0 kills and 2.7 digs over 20 sets this week. Ramirez recorded a .260 hitting percentage on 204 total attempts and averaged 0.7 blocks, 0.3 service aces, and 0.1 assists. Helping the Falcons to a monster 5-0 week in Texas behind a pair of double-doubles she posted 23 kills and 24 digs in a five-set win vs. Tyler, and had 23 kills and 12 digs in a five-setter vs. Panola.

We would like introduce our Student Government State Advisor, Alex Bruno from Palm Beach State College!

Alex Bruno is a trained political philosopher with special competencies in teaching, research, social communication, student leadership, cultures, and human relations. Bruno graduated from Palm Beach Community College (PBCC) and transferred to FAU, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in philosophy with a minor in theatre, and completed his first Master’s degree in political science, with a full teaching assistantship. He was initiated into the Eta Delta Chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha, the National Political Science Honorary Society (FAU CHAPTER) for his academic achievements at FAU. Bruno completed a second Master’s degree in international relations (studies) with a focus on global institutions at Florida International University (FIU). Currently, Bruno is employed at Palm Beach State College (PBSC) as a Political Science Professor, where he served as National Model United Nations (NMUN) program advisor from 2023 - 2026. Under Bruno's leadership, the PBSC NMUN program won three consecutive top awards: Distinguished Delegation in 2024 and 2025, and Outstanding Delegation Award in 2026. Professor Bruno has over 10 years of higher education and SGA advising experience and is a strong advocate for students, particularly those who aspire for and are in leadership positions. Bruno is a forever learner who lives to teach and teaches to live, and he brings this acumen into the role of Florida College System Student Government Association (FCSSGA) State Advisor for 2026 - 2027.

South Florida claimed first place in the women's team scoring and Melina Cardona was the top individual finisher at Friday's SFSC XC Panther Invitational. Lake-Sumter and Central Florida finished 2nd and 3rd, respectively. Lake-Sumter finished 2nd in men's team scoring.

Introducing our '26-'27 Publications State Advisor, Dr. Harun Thomas!

Dr. Harun Karim Thomas has been a professor of English at Daytona State College since 2008. He received a B.S. in journalism (’98), B.A. in English (’99), M.A. in English (’02), and Ph.D. (’08) from the University of Florida. Fall 2026 marks the start of his seventh year as the advisor for both student publications at DSC, In Motion (news) and Ae**us (magazine). In his spare time, he watches soccer and American football, reads mostly non-fiction and some fiction, writes, plays drums, goes on long walks, and travels with his wife, often to visit their adult children in North Carolina.

Next, we would like to introduce our Music State Advisor, Dr. Jason Longtin!

Dr. Longtin is Professor of Music and Department Chair for Visual and Performing Arts at the College of Central Florida. He directs the Patriot Singers and teaches courses in Music Theory, Musical Theatre, and Music Education. He taught high school music in Florida from 1999 to 2017 and is a National Board Certified Teacher (Early Adolescence/Young Adulthood). He taught for two years at Lyman High School (Longwood), 12 years at Crystal River High School, and four years at Florida Virtual School. Choirs under his direction have performed throughout the United States, Italy, and Switzerland. As a composer, his music has been performed across the United States, Mexico, and Europe.

Dr. Longtin is an active member of the National Association for Music Education, American Choral Directors Association, Florida Music Education Association, and has served on the State Board of the Florida Vocal Association. He holds a Bachelor of Music Education from Stetson University and both a Master of Music in Music Education and a Ph.D. in Music Education from the University of Florida.

We are back to our Executive Committee Introductions! Next up is Dr. Jennifer Forshee, our Model United Nations State Advisor!

Dr. Jennifer Forshee is an Associate Professor in the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences at Santa Fe College. She holds a Ph.D. in Political Science with a concentration in Comparative Politics and Political Theory. Her dissertation explored evolving conceptions of cosmopolitanism within the context of development studies.

At Santa Fe College, Dr. Forshee teaches a range of courses including Comparative Politics, International Relations, Political Theory, Politics of Developing Nations, and United Nations. She has co-led several study abroad programs to Jamaica, Italy, and China.

Dr. Forshee has served as the faculty advisor for Santa Fe College’s Model United Nations team for 14 years. She has also held multiple terms as the at-large faculty representative on the Southern Regional Model United Nations Board of Directors.
