Real learning. Real experience. Real impact. 💡🏢

At COSSPP, data doesn't just sit on a shelf—we put it to work. From hands-on research and community engagement to shaping policy across Florida and beyond, our students and faculty are making a difference every single day.

The 2025-2026 issue of Engage magazine is hot off the press! Engage is the College of Social Sciences and Public Policy's annual magazine highlighting the activities and successes of our students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends.

This year's top stories include COSSPP in Action, a look at how the college impacts Florida through careers, education, and research, enhancing communities at the local, state, federal, and global levels; A Marketplace of Ideas, on how COSSPP builds civil discourse and develops critical thinkers who solve complex problems; and The Future is Made in Bellamy, celebrating the student organizations building skills and connections for career success.

This year's issue also highlights major milestones for the college, including the 25th anniversary of the Master's in Applied American Politics and Policy (MAAPP) program and the 35th anniversary of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI). We're also proud to recognize our 2026–2027 Distinguished Alumni: Jeralynn (Lynne) S. Cossman, Ph.D.; the Honorable Larry Hogan; and Gene Moran, Ph.D.

Florida State University Associate Teaching Professor of Interdisciplinary Social Science Alexandra Cockerham, Ph.D., and FSU Public Safety and Security Assistant Teaching Professor James Cockerham, Ph.D., co-authored the book chapter titled “Public Information Requests and Law Enforcement Transparency,” published in Contemporary Political Participation and its Countervailing Effects on Civic Culture by Vernon Press in 2026.

The authors examine how citizens interact with law enforcement agencies and how these interactions affect organizational transparency. Their research shows that public record accessibility often depends on who submits the request, with agencies responding faster, more frequently, and with more information to requests from fellow officers than to those from civilians.
