Claudia Urday is part of the Summer 2026 cohort of Florida State University's DC Study Away Program!

Urday — a senior pursuing dual degrees through the FSU Department of Religion and Florida State University English Department, both at the FSU College of Arts & Sciences — is presently in Washington, D.C. for her summer internship as a refugee walk-in services intake intern with the International Rescue Committee.

“As someone who aspires to work in immigration law and refugee advocacy, this internship has provided unparalleled experience. Working in a major hub city has enhanced my ability to communicate with individuals from a wide range of identities, cultures and backgrounds. Understanding how to effectively support vulnerable populations and deeply comprehend their circumstances are skills I’ve strengthened through my education in the College of Arts and Sciences.”

Urday is also pursuing minors in through the FSU Department of Anthropology and FSU Department of Philosophy.

Directed by FSU Career Center, the DC Study Away Program allows full-time enrolled degree seeking FSU students completing internships to live in a supportive community with their peers, where they can focus on their internships while benefiting from shared support and connection.
