Congratulations, Dr. Maxey!
We are so proud of you!

For Dr. Isiah Maxey, a rehearsal is never just a rehearsal.

We are so excited to welcome Dr. Isiah Maxey to the Georgia State University School of Music as Lecturer and Associate Director of Choirs! A scholar-conductor whose work spans award-winning choral education, world premiere opera productions and nationally recognized research, Dr. Maxey brings a bold and deeply intentional vision to our choral program.

He will conduct the Treble Chorus and Choral Union and teach conducting, choral literature and choral methods — all with a philosophy rooted in collective inquiry, reflection and shared musical experience.

As Director Dr. Julia Bullard shared: “On the podium he radiates joy and energy, while also providing students with a strong foundation in technique and musicianship.”

Conducting, drumming, theater...Oh My!
Beyond choir rehearsals, students get to participate in electives each day that focus on musicianship, voice, drumming, conducting, and musical theater. We are thankful to our instructors who share with these students each day!

Our directors for FSU Choir Camp are Dr. Brian Niu conducting the TB and SA choirs, Mariana Romero Serra conducting the Treble Choir, and Dr. Kevin Fenton conducting the SATB choir. Each conductor has an individual connection to FSU and we are so glad they are here with us this week guiding these young musicians with care!
