The keynote address, titled “Learning and Belief in the Brain's Olfactory System,” will be delivered by Rutgers University's John McGann (pictured).

In addition to talks by student and faculty researchers in the FSU Program in Neuroscience, the event will feature a mock interview workshop, during which participants will select to be interviewed by faculty aligned with job positions in academia, industry, government, public outreach and administration, or a research institute.

The evening will conclude with a social hour of bowling and snacks.

As part of the Railroad Square Art District's monthly First Friday festivities, Ask a Scientist brings research to the public, and you can find our experts near the Breezeway Plaza from 6-9 p.m.

▶️ David Collins (top left), a professor in the FSU Department of Physics, researches the formation of stars by simulating magnetized turbulence in space.

▶️ Linda Rinaman (top right), a distinguished research professor in the FSU Program in Neuroscience and FSU Department of Psychology, studies the neurological mechanisms behind food intake, specifically the GLP-1 system.

▶️ Robert Hart (middle left), a professor of meteorology in the FSU Department of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Science, conducts research on tropical cyclones, synoptic-dynamic meteorology and more.

▶️ Ryan Truchelut (middle right) earned his doctorate in meteorology from Florida State University in 2015. Shortly after, he co-founded Weather Tiger, a Tallahassee-based company that provides customized seasonal weather forecasts and full-spectrum decision support for a wide range of markets.

▶️ Amy Baco-Taylor (bottom right), a professor of oceanography and environmental science in the FSU Department of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Science, studies deep-sea coral ecology, marine molecular ecology and more.

“These findings suggest that GLP-1 drugs might help some women stop bingeing by correcting problems with lower GLP-1 release while eating.”

Emerging research by Pamela Keel, a Robert O. Lawton Distinguished Professor in the FSU Department of Psychology, suggests GLP-1 drugs may help reduce binge-eating symptoms in some bulimia patients by addressing a biological factor rather than simply targeting willpower or behavior.
