FAMU EXTENSION FAMU Cooperative Extension Program is the outreach arm of the College of Agriculture and Food Sciences

Through the history of FAMU, countless residents in the North Florida region have been enriched through the positive impact of significant information shared by specialists and agents through the Cooperative Extension Program. Reaching out to serve farmers, rural and urban families, elderly, youth, entrepreneurs, small business owners, and underserved communities continues to be a rich tradition of the FAMU Cooperative Extension Program. The FAMU Cooperative Extension Program provides research-based educational information and direct technical assistance to improve the quality of life for limited resource citizens in 18 counties in Florida. As a unit of the Florida Cooperative Extension Service, the program is responsible for coordinating activities and events of mutual benefit with the University of Florida/Institute of Food and Agriculture Sciences (IFAS).

Our collaborative program, “Expanding Outreach and Impact: UF/IFAS Extension and FAMU Housing Education,” has been recognized with the following honors in the 2026 NEAFCS Annual Awards Program:

This award reflects the continued commitment of FAMU Extension to providing impactful, research-based education and outreach that strengthens individuals, families, and communities across Florida. Through housing education, community engagement, and collaborative partnerships, we remain dedicated to empowering residents with valuable resources and tools that improve quality of life.

We are incredibly proud of our agents Carla Adams Lippett and Cheyenne Martin being a part of the housing team and thankful for the opportunity to represent FAMU Extension on both the regional and national stage. Congratulations to everyone whose hard work, passion, and service made this accomplishment possible!

FAMU Extension is excited to be part of the 2026 Sunbelt Agricultural Exposition in Moultrie, Georgia!

Day 1 was filled with opportunities to connect, learn, and explore the latest innovations in agriculture! From agricultural technology and sustainable farming practices to valuable conversations with growers, industry professionals, and community members, the Sunbelt Ag Expo continues to showcase the future of agriculture.

🌱🔬 Soil Science in Action at Roosevelt Middle School!

Sixth (6th), seventh (7th) and eight (8th) grade students at Roosevelt Middle School rolled up their sleeves and became soil scientists for the day!

Students conducted hands-on soil testing to measure soil pH and assess key plant nutrients: nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K). They also explored soil profiles, learning how soil layers differ in color, texture, and composition.

Using the soil texture triangle, students practiced identifying soil types based on the percentages of sand, silt, and clay.

Beyond the science, students explored career opportunities in soil science and related fields, including soil scientists, soil conservationists, agronomists, environmental scientists, and agricultural researchers.

Through hands-on activities and career exploration, students discovered that soil is much more than dirt, it is a valuable natural resource that supports plants, ecosystems, and our food supply!

Whether you're new to composting or looking to improve your skills, this hands-on workshop will show you how to: ✅ Reduce household waste
✅ Improve soil health
✅ Create a more sustainable garden
✅ Minimize the environmental impact of food and yard waste

🎁 The first 25 registrants will receive a FREE 43-gallon backyard compost tumbler provided by Keep West Palm Beach Beautiful!
