SOE is committed to providing unique multicultural experiences for its students while still maintaining its reputation of being a historic

al leader in the training of underrepresented minorities in the sciences and environmental careers. SOE students are exposed to a broad variety of enriched learning experiences provided through several degree program options:

Environmental Studies, B.A
Environmental Studies, B.S. Students will experience state of the art research facilities housed in approximately 6,000 square feet of space within the Fred S. Humphries Science Research Center. Instruments available to both faculty and students in this facility include ICP/OES, high resolution gamma-ray spectroscopy with fiber optic access to the internet, and a high performance GIS computer laboratory to name a few. In order to maintain our cutting-edge status, laboratory equipment is continuously upgraded and replaced. SOE offers eligible students support through scholarships and work-study assistantships, such as the SOE's Scholars-in-Residence scholarship program. Students also have opportunities for internships in industry, state, and federal laboratories. To make a donation to the SOE please visit: http://www.famu.edu/index.cfm?environmentalscience&DonatetoSOE. Additionally, the SOE hosts the International Summit on EnergyWaterFood Nexus creating a new science enterprise through a biennial meeting seeking to provide sustainable and innovative solutions for energy, water, and food security. 🌎 FAMU Researchers Use AI to Advance Hurricane Preparedness

Florida A&M University’s School of the Environment is leveraging artificial intelligence, environmental sensors, real-time data and geographic information systems (GIS) to strengthen hurricane preparedness, climate resilience and public health.

Through the Center of Excellence for Indoor Air Quality, FAMU faculty and students are collecting environmental data before and after severe weather events while gaining hands-on experience with emerging technologies.

The School’s expanding monitoring network and Mobile AI Laboratory demonstrate how research, technology and experiential learning can come together to address real-world environmental challenges.

🌊🐚 Innovation in Action!

We're excited to share a new story highlighting SOE's Rattler Moji Aquatic Sensing Buoy and its impact on both environmental research and coastal communities.

The Rattler Moji Buoy is helping support oyster farmers by providing valuable environmental data while creating hands-on research opportunities for School of the Environment scholars. This innovative project showcases how FAMU students, faculty, and staff are leveraging science, technology, and community partnerships to address real-world environmental challenges.

At the School of the Environment, we’re proud to provide students with experiential learning opportunities that prepare them to become the next generation of environmental leaders.
