Visitors walking through the Student Union this month are encountering a 7-foot-tall art installation that changes depending on where they stand, using fractured images and survivor stories to explore the installation known as The Voices Project. This immersive art experience between Master Craftsman Studio, managed by FSU Department of Art sculpture alum Phil Gleason (MFA '08), and the Lauren’s Kids Foundation focuses on preventing childhood abuse through education and advocacy.

“This project really pushed our limits as to what we were capable of, both with our research and our tooling in the studio,” Gleason said. “Seeing the reaction of people in the Union and realizing the impact of these fractured images and how they represent the persona of a survivor was when it really set in that this is a powerful, honorable piece to be a part of.”

Yesterday was the opening of "Spectacular Canvas" at the FSU Museum of Fine Arts, an exhibition featuring works by students from Gilchrist Elementary School who participated in a museum-based artist residency through Arts4All Florida! Student artists were invited to engage in experimental processes that emphasized movement, sensory experiences, storytelling, and the joy of discovery. The My Art My Way artist-in-residence program helps increase students' artistic skills and techniques, cognitive learning and self-expression through the arts. Be sure to stop by the museum and take a look at these young artists' creations!

We are proud to highlight the recent work of Julia Stephens, an FSU Department of Art and Florida State University English Department/FSU College of Arts & Sciences student who was recently selected as one of only 16 undergraduate artists nationwide for NASA’s Psyche Inspired program.

Through this prestigious internship, Stephens is using her artistic skills to share scientific and engineering content with the public in creative new ways. With works ranging from steel sculptures to watercolors, these pieces help tell the story of the Psyche mission, which aims to explore a metal-rich asteroid that offers a unique window into the building blocks of planet formation.

You can explore work by Stephens alongside that of 15 other interns from the program’s “Platinum Class” in the online Psyche Inspired Showcase, available through Thursday, April 30. Visit bit.ly/4w1s8pR to learn more!
