📆 ☎️ On 8/13, South University, Tampa celebrated "813 Day" with a vibrant event featuring food, music, arts and crafts, and an on-campus treasure hunt.

Embracing this year's "pirate" theme, the celebration highlighted Tampa Bay's local history and connection to pirate legends such as José Gaspar. 🏴‍☠️

Celebrated annually on August 13th, "813 Day" is named after the area code established in 1953, which has evolved from a simple phone prefix into a beloved local holiday that honors Tampa’s unique culture, community pride, and identity. 💙 🎓

⚓ Ahoy, Tampa! 813 Day had got a serious pirate makeover.

With Raymond James Stadium practically in our backyard, a Buccaneer Bash was the only way to celebrate our area code in style. Mini Cuban sandwiches? Check. A decorate-your-own eye patch station? Absolutely. A campus-wide Treasure Hunt with gold coins, jewels, and tiny pirates hidden everywhere? Students had exactly 8 minutes and 13 seconds to loot as much treasure as possible before time ran out.

🏴‍☠️ Add a pirate-prop photo booth into the mix and you've got one unforgettable day of Tampa spirit, sunshine, and a whole lot of "arrr."

This initiative supported local families as they prepared for the upcoming academic year in the Tampa Bay area. The event was a significant success, welcoming over 200 visitors, primarily students and their families. During the day, South University’s Physician Assistant (PA) and MSN & BSN Nursing students played an active role, assisting in the delivery of healthcare services under the direct supervision of campus faculty. 🎒💙🖍️
