Founders, mentors and future innovators gathered on Tuesday to celebrate entrepreneurship at the University of South Florida.

The USF Nault Center for Entrepreneurship honored a community leader, mentors and student entrepreneurs at its inaugural awards luncheon, recognizing the people who have helped students turn ideas into businesses.

The event drew over 300 attendees to the University Student Center at the USF St. Petersburg campus, bringing together faculty, alumni, donors, advisory board members and business leaders from across Tampa Bay.

🤖 The next time you walk into a restaurant to a robot server, its appearance or voice may not be what matters most 🛎️

A new study by the University of South Florida reveals that what makes hospitality workers feel comfortable working alongside robots has less to do with how they look and sound and more to do with their ability to think, recognize, and interact with people.

The study is co-authored by Trishna G. Mistry, associate professor, and Seden Dogan, assistant professor of instruction in the School of Hospitality and Sport Management at the University of South Florida Muma College of Business.

Over 100 University of South Florida business students, most eager to get a foothold into the competitive marketing and advertising world, flocked to the USF Judy Genshaft Honors College on Friday to hear from an industry icon.

Advertising mogul Jordan Zimmerman, founder of Zimmerman Advertising, sat down for an hour-long fireside chat led by USF President Moez Limayem. The 60-minute conversation covered a slew of topics — everything from the state of AI to why he decided to buy his company back from Omnicom.

"I had about $10,000 to start my dream, and a lot of people told me what I couldn’t do,” he said. “So do not listen to the ‘No-Man’. If I did it, anyone could do it. It takes perseverance and sacrifice.”

✨ Meet Dimitri Bernadotte, a alum who is building a career shaping Tampa Bay. ✨

From being a member of the USF Judy Genshaft Honors College, interning with USF Athletics, and serving as an intramural referee at Recreation & Wellness, Bernadotte made the most out of his time at USF.

During a trip to Boston, noticing how the neighborhood surrounding the sports stadium stayed lively and bustling regardless of whether a game was on, Bernadotte saw an opportunity for Tampa Bay: how sports can serve as an anchor for entire communities.

Now, Bernadotte is working as a downtown development coordinator with the St. Petersburg Downtown Partnership, contributing to downtown development, housing, and infrastructure.

Bernadotte's experience with USF has allowed him to explore career possibilities that he didn't know existed. “My goal is to move to a bigger city to learn about those processes and the complexity of those real estate deals and then bring that knowledge back to Florida,” he said.

Congratulations, Priya Dozier, on receiving the 2026 USF Innovation in Online Design and Teaching Award!!

The award recognizes faculty who combine innovative online teaching with intentional course design to create meaningful learning experiences for students.

Dozier is an associate professor of instruction at the Kate Tiedemann School of Business and Finance. Through the development process with Innovative Education Learning Designer Koichi Sato, the online course FinTech & Payment Technologies connects students with working fintech professionals, incorporates current industry data and case studies, and gives students hands-on experience consulting with real fintech startups.
