Last week, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office honored CAS graduate students Md Omer Hossain and Dhrubo Barua with the Citizens Award for their contributions to the investigation into the tragic deaths of USF students Zamil Limon and Nahida Bristy.

We’re grateful for their compassion and willingness to act during such a difficult time, and for the many members of the community who supported this investigation.

National security is about people — that’s the lesson political sciences major Santiago Zambrano brought home from the GNSI DC Experience.

From insights shared by LTG (Ret.) Bob Ashley to conversations with congressional staffers, Santiago learned how empathy, curiosity, and communication shape the work of protecting our nation.

Stay tuned for more from his experience -- we'll have his story in CAS Chronicles.

At CAS, students explore ancient life through VR/AR, 3D scanning, and 3D printing in Dr. Ryan Carney’s Digital Dinosaurs course — which will make a return in the spring.

Fun fact for Pokémon fans: Dr. Carney also consulted for the Pokémon Fossil Museum, including research behind the museum’s black Archaeopteryx model featured in NYT and NatGeo.

Thank you to everyone who attended the 2026 Black Cemetery Network Conference at USF St. Petersburg last week. Your presence helped shine a light on the ongoing work to preserve Black cemeteries as sacred spaces and vital links to hometown histories. The panels, performances, and cemetery spotlights showcased the legal, civic, artistic, and community expertise driving preservation efforts nationwide.

CAS is proud to support the Black Cemetery Network in this work—building the next generation while honoring those who came before us. 🤘

Commencement may have passed, but we’re still celebrating our CAS graduates! 🎓

Meet Eric Charpentier, who earned his B.A. in Mass Communications, Broadcast Production. During his time at , Eric learned the value of connection — and he shares this advice for incoming students:
“Always reach out no matter what. Once I started doing that, I found a great support system through friends and professors, and it helps tremendously throughout your time here at USF.”

We’re proud of you, Eric, and excited to see what comes next! 🤘
