The TCOP is the only state-funded program located in a metropolitan area within the State of Florida. The TCOP is excited to move the pharmacy profession towards the year 2022 and beyond. Prescribed Combination for Success:

USF is one of the nation’s top public research universities. The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching has identified USF as one of only 25 public research universities nationwide with very high research activity that is designated as community engaged. USF has created USF Health as an enterprise dedicated to making life better by improving health in the wider environment, in communities, and for individuals. USF Health includes the colleges of medicine, nursing, public health and pharmacy; the schools of biomedical sciences as well as physical therapy & rehabilitation sciences; and the USF Physicians Group. In 2009, the Florida Board of Governors approved a proposal to establish a PharmD Program at USF. Pharmacy as a discipline and as a profession co-exists extremely well with all other health professions disciplines providing excellent opportunity for interprofessional education; the Taneja College of Pharmacy (TCOP) will enhance the educational, research, clinical, and technological endeavors for the Colleges within USF Health.

Last week, Dean Zgibor led a group of TCOP faculty, staff, and students on a tour of BPI Labs. BPI Labs is part of Belcher Pharmaceuticals, a specialty pharmaceutical company founded by the Taneja family. Our pharmily got a chance to look firsthand at pharmaceutical manufacturing and the industry pathways available to our PharmD graduates.

A huge thank you to Chandra Kasireddy, COO of BPI Labs and to Supriya Taneja for welcoming our team and giving us an inside look at the facility.

Experiences like this are exactly how we bridge the gap between the classroom and the real world — and we're grateful for partners who invest in the future of our students.

Dr. Boris Naraev is a gastrointestinal, endocrine, and neuroendocrine medical oncologist at Tampa General Hospital Cancer Institute and Associate Professor of Medicine at USF Morsani College of Medicine. His work includes helping build one of the largest neuroendocrine cancer programs in the Southwest U.S. — and we're honored to have his expertise at this event.

Meet one of our speakers for the Innovations in Radiopharmacy Virtual Symposium!

Dr. Ghassan El-Haddad is the Section Head for the Radionuclide Therapy Program at Moffitt Cancer Center and a Professor of Radiology and Oncologic Sciences at USF. His research focuses on novel targeted radiopharmaceutical therapies, including alpha-targeted therapy for metastatic uveal melanoma and neuroendocrine tumors. Don't miss his insights on October 13!

The Office of Experiential Education proudly recognizes a preceptor who goes above and beyond in guiding future pharmacists. This month, we’re thrilled to spotlight Dr. Jennifer Lee, PharmD, BCPS — Clinical Specialist and Intern Program Liaison at St. Joseph's Women's Hospital — as an Outstanding Preceptor for the Taneja College of Pharmacy!

"St. Joseph's Main is where I am currently an intern, and I have been grateful for the many opportunities the site has allowed me to experience. My preceptor played a large role in scheduling and accommodating multiple interns, while also making sure our selected areas of interest were covered throughout the month. The health system's openness to students, along with our preceptor's guidance, created a unique learning experience for students with and without prior hospital experience and provided valuable exposure to the many areas of pharmacy practice."

Dr. Lee and her team have made a real impression on our IPPE students this year. Thank you for creating such a welcoming environment for our future pharmacists here at TCOP.

Dean Zgibor has been out in the community this week — and we love to see it.

First, she stopped by USF's Intro to Health Professions class to speak with students exploring their future in healthcare. Her message was simple and powerful:

"Be kind to yourself. You don't have to know what you are going to do for the rest of your lives today."

Then, she paid a visit to Bell Pharmacy — a Tampa community gem owned by TCOP alumnus Dr. Anthony "Tony" Trunzo. Bell Pharmacy is an independent pharmacy built on a mission of personalized, compassionate care — offering everything from custom compounding and medication syncing to delivery services and discounts on brand-name medications.

Dr. Zgibor talked with Dr. Tony firsthand to learn how Bell Pharmacy is serving the Tampa community and to explore how TCOP can better align our students' training with the real-world needs of independent pharmacy practice.
