Whether presenting a winning research poster at the USF Health Research Day or defending her thesis, MSPN Alum Xinran Zhu made the most out of her time at the Taneja College of Pharmacy.

"The MSPN program provided me with a strong foundation in pharmaceutical sciences and nanotechnology through both coursework and hands-on training. Under the guidance of dedicated faculty mentors, I also gained valuable research experience in computational biology and had opportunities to present my work at USF Health Research Day and contribute to scientific publications. These experiences have prepared me to pursue further research and build a career in the biopharmaceutical industry."

Se defended her thesis "From Cardiovascular Safety Assessment to Peptide Hemolytic Activity
Prediction: Integrative Computational Analyses for Drug Evaluation and
Discovery" over the summer and graduated shortly after.

Congratulations on your success here at USF and we look forward to your continued success outside the college.

Over the summer, some of our TCOP students interned at Lonza. Lonza (Capsugel) operates a major site right here in Tampa, part of their CHI Global Pharmaceutical Solutions network. The facility supports the full drug development lifecycle — from first-in-human trials to commercial manufacturing — specializing in oral solid dosage and inhalation programs.

During their internship, they were integrated into various departments where they had the opportunity to work side by side with pharmaceutical professionals. Their summer ended with a final presentation where they discussed the projects they worked on in Formulations, MSAT engineering, and Quality Assurance.

Local industry partnerships like this are part of what makes Tampa such a strong hub for pharmacy careers.

Last month, we had a few of our students, alumni, and faculty play key roles at the Florida Pharmacy Association Annual Meeting.

Dustin Williams (TCOP Alumni, Class of 2021) on a successful term as Speaker of the House — and to Dr. Aiya Almogaber (TCOP Faculty) on being sworn in as the incoming Speaker of the House, with Dustin passing the gavel himself!

Christopher Mikler (PY4, Class of 2027) presented Resolution 2026-1, advocating for expanded access to Medications for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) which unanimously passed by the House. Christopher also presented a research poster on perinatal and substance use outcomes in pregnant patients with stimulant use disorder treated with mirtazapine and bupropion, earning Third Place for Best Student Research Poster and the Parrado Family Scholarship from the Florida Pharmacy Foundation.

Sally Herrick (TCOP Class of 2027) presented Resolution 2026-2, advancing pharmacist awareness of s*x- and gender-specific differences in women's health care — passed by the House.

Lauren Leatherman (PY2, Class of 2029) also served as a Student Delegate for the West Florida Pharmacy Association. Amanda Crow (PY4, Class of 2027) was a finalist for the FPF Hamilton, Harris & Hobbs Student Presidential Scholarship Award. Kayla Satyanand (PY4, Class of 2027) was a finalist for the FPF Terry Gubbins Student Leadership Award

So proud of our Bulls making an impact at the state level! 🐂💊

Last Friday, we held our annual student delegate training. Student delegates play an important role in the college including recruitment of prospective students as well as assist the hosting of events at the college including our White Coat and Medallion ceremonies. They learned about their roles with the college, practiced talking points with prospective students, as well as participating in an ice-breaker session and tour training.

We also wanted to give a shout out to our P4 delegates who are unable to attend due to their rotation obligations. You are very appreciated for your services to the Taneja College of Pharmacy.

The Taneja College of Pharmacy hosted Dr. Jenny Lo-Ciganic from the University of Pittsburgh where she lectured and held a Q&A session with more than 25 faculty to help form the foundation of the college’s pharmacoepidemiology and pharmaceutical outcomes research strategy.

Dr. Lo-Ciganic reviewed her research trajectory from the early stages to a well-known, funded NIH researcher. Her enthusiasm for this research permitted her discussion during which she was able to field question on getting started, how to find the right funding mechanism, agency priorities, and navigating the reviewer feedback.

This is the beginning of an exciting research trajectory at the Taneja College of Pharmacy.

In this month's Preceptor Spotlight, we're celebrating Dr. Rossina M. Chevasco, PharmD, CPh, Pharmacy Manager at USF Health Pharmacy Plus.

Dr. Chevasco's USF story runs deep: she earned her BS in Biomedical Sciences back in 2009 and then went on to graduate with the charter class of the Taneja College of Pharmacy in 2015 - helping build the very program she now precepts and serves the community for.

"Dr. Chevasco created an environment where I felt genuinely supported and challenged to grow as a student pharmacist. She always took the time to teach, answer my questions, and encouraged me to think critically by involving me in real drug information questions and clinical decision making. Her patience, mentorship, and genuine investment in both my professional and personal growth made my first experiential rotation an incredibly meaningful experience."

Thank you, Dr. Chevasco, for being there since the beginning and shaping the next generation of pharmacists!
