Can automated speed cameras improve safety in school zones?

Join the next MOVE@USF Transportation Seminar Series featuring Yaye Keita, PhD, who will present findings from an FDOT-sponsored study evaluating the effectiveness of automated speed camera enforcement in Florida school zones. The research examined 18 school zones and 33 roadway segments, finding that speed safety cameras can significantly reduce speeding and improve driver compliance.

This session will provide valuable insights for transportation professionals, planners, safety practitioners, and policymakers focused on protecting vulnerable road users and improving roadway safety.

How can AI and aerial imagery help make walking and biking safer?

Join the next MOVE@USF Transportation Seminar Series featuring Achilleas Kourtellis, PhD, who will discuss innovative research using high-resolution aerial imagery, artificial intelligence, and machine learning to identify roadway features and evaluate the condition of safety infrastructure such as crosswalks and pavement markings.

The study examines how changes in pavement marking quality relate to traffic volumes and crashes, providing new insights into pedestrian and bicycle safety and offering a practical alternative to traditional data collection methods.

We're proud to share that Jodi Godfrey, Senior Research Associate in CUTR's Transit Safety and Workforce Development Program, has been appointed to the U.S. Department of Transportation's Advisory Committee on Human Trafficking (ACHT) Research & Data Subcommittee.

A nationally recognized leader in transit safety, workforce development, and anti-human trafficking initiatives, Godfrey has helped advance research, training, and practical tools that empower transportation professionals to recognize and appropriately respond to human trafficking. Her appointment will help bring transportation research and frontline industry perspectives to this important national effort.

Congratulations, Jodi, on this well-deserved appointment!
