FMP 280 shooting on the Tempe campus this morning, and the heat definitely made itself known.

It wasn’t the easiest start to the day, but everyone stayed focused and worked through it together.

Proud of the crew for showing up, staying patient, and putting in the effort to get what they needed. Days like this make you appreciate the process a little more.

Stay busy and hydrated out there!

And the Oscar goes to...

Sunday night at the 98th Academy Awards, the short film “The Singers," produced by ASU alum David Breschel, won the Oscar for Best Live Action Short Film.

In a rare moment in Oscars history, a tie was announced, and the award was shared with “Two People Exchanging Saliva.” It is only the 7th tie ever in Academy Awards history, across all categories. The Sidney Poitier New American Film School couldn’t be prouder of Breschel, a 2012 graduate of ASU’s film program.

“The Singers” began as a bold experiment in filmmaking: no script, non-actors discovered on YouTube, Instagram and TikTok, and inspiration drawn from a 175-year-old Russian short story. Shot on 35mm and built through improvisation, the film transforms a dingy dive bar into the unexpected setting for a powerful, soul-stirring singing competition.

February is International Romance Month at The Poitier Film School

Join us for a free screening of "Mississippi Masala" (1991), directed by Mira Nair — yes, the iconic filmmaker who’s also the mom of Zohran Mamdani.

An in*******al love story set in the Deep South, starring Sarita Choudhury and Denzel Washington, it’s swoony, political and unforgettable. Don’t miss this global romance classic.

Love is in the air at the ASU MIX Center this February, starting with the 2000 Wong Kar-wai film “In the Mood for Love,” starring Tony Leung and Maggie Cheung as a man and woman in 1962 Hong Kong who discover their spouses are cheating on them, and then in their commiseration begin to develop feelings for one another.

One of the most ravishing films ever made, “In the Mood for Love” has come to be recognized as a major work of Asian cinema.
