Barrett, the Honors College at Arizona State University is a selective, residential college that recruits academically outstanding undergraduates across the nation. Named “Best Honors College” in the nation, this residential community has more National Merit Scholars than MIT, Duke, Brown, Stanford or the University of California-Berkeley, and Barrett students benefit from a twelve million dollar

There's still time to apply! Although the official deadline has passed, some spots are still available for Barrett's summer study abroad program, Barrett in Morocco & Portugal: The Crossroads of Civilization.

This unique journey takes students across two continents and cultures, from the ancient medinas of Fes to the beaches of Cascais.

If you’re interested in joining, please contact international coordinator Madison Baker at [email protected] as soon as possible for details on how to apply and secure your place.

Big news for Arizona State University, and a proud moment for Barrett, The Honors College.

ASU ranks No. 9 worldwide and No. 5 nationally for U.S. utility patents in 2025 according to the National Academy of Inventors, marking eight straight years in the national top 10.

One of those 185 patents? A battery-free wearable device co-invented by Barrett's own Associate Dean Thomas Sugar that helps people safely move from sitting to standing, restoring confidence and independence in everyday life.

This is what innovation looks like: research that improves lives. We’re proud to see Barrett leadership helping lead the way.

Barrett, The Honors College proudly celebrates three students recognized as Fall 2025 Dean’s Medalists by The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

Gabby Bayona Dicang (psychology) is honored for her neuroscience research spanning brain function, cognition and neurodegenerative disease.

Richard Lingua (history) is recognized for his impactful Honors thesis on North Korean abductions and contributions to public history.

Claire Connett (earth and space exploration) is celebrated for her research on desert microbial activity, optical measurements and Antarctic fieldwork.

Barrett student and Dean’s Medalist Richard Lingua describes his history degree as the culmination of decades of curiosity, professional experience and a lifelong love of the humanities.

Returning to school through ASU Online, he found community, mentorship and research opportunities—including completing an Honors thesis on the Korean War—that deepened his academic path and prepared him for the next step in ASU’s accelerated history MA program.

Barrett student Sanyam Paresh Shah found an unexpected bridge between science and art while completing his thesis, a 15-poem collection that humanizes the complex world of bioinformatics.

With mentorship from ASU’s Dr. Rosemarie Dombrowski, Shah transformed his passion for data, discovery and creativity into work that makes scientific research more accessible and deeply human.

Barrett Online student and Voyager Scholar Jessica Lopez is redefining what accessible education and travel can look like.

Balancing research, leadership and advocacy, she used her scholarship-funded U.S. travel study to produce the first comprehensive Honors thesis analyzing accessibility and financial performance in the travel industry.

Now graduating with a business administration degree, she’s committed to transforming industries from within and advancing disability inclusion in higher education and beyond.
