The 2026 HRC Block Party has come and GONE!

Not only were we celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, but this year we also marked our 40th anniversary 👨‍🦳

Many thanks to all who stopped by to connect with us and our many tabling partners. We were treated to some incredible performances by students from ASU's School of Music, Dance and Theatre and the Ballet Folklorico Club at Arizona State University gave us a traditional Baile folklórico 🥹. And so many of you were happy to let us know what RESEARCH means to you - thank you!

It was a pleasure to reconnect with longtime friends and welcome some new ones along the way!

Were you able to join us at our block party? Let us know your favorite part (probably the free paletas 😅) in the comments!

Did you know? The Hispanic Research Center was established in 1985 with a goal to advance research on issues affecting Hispanic and Latino communities.

Since then, we have led projects in education, politics, public health, history, and arts while partnering with organizations at the local, national, and international levels. Today, we continues to serve as a central resource for research, education, and community engagement at Arizona State University.

Four decades later, we’re proud of where we’ve been, grateful to those who helped along the way, and looking forward to what comes next! Cheers to another 40 years!

HRC EVENTS THIS FALL✌🏽✌🏽

The HRC has a robust slate of exciting events coming up this semester.

Our new art exhibition officially opens on Sep. 29 with two guided tours led by HRC Art Curator Santigo Moratto. The 11 a.m. tour will be in English, and the 1:30 tour will be in Spanish. “Celebrating 40 Years of the Hispanic Research Center Art Collection” revisits three critical legacy projects that reflect the breadth of the HRC’s research across 40 years. If you cannot attend either of these two tours, connect with us to schedule your own!

We’re also celebrating our 40th anniversary along with Hispanic Heritage Month with our Fall 2026 Block Party! Food, giveaways, free paletas, entertainment, and more! Oct. 1, 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Tempe campus.

Later in the fall, on Nov. 12, we’re hosting our next Research Conexiones event. This session will focus on Latinos and health. 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. in room B280 within Interdisciplinary B. Guest speakers will be announced soon!

Our Bilingual Press | Editorial Bilingüe is also hosting or participating in a number of events this fall. Be sure to check them out and follow along if you aren’t already.

🤯 Historical Perspectives 🤯

Did you know? The Hispanic Research Center conducted extensive research on the history of Cinco de Mayo.

The HRC researchers traveled to Puebla, Mexico, where the origin of Cinco de Mayo took place, to interview prominent scholars who provided expert insights about the history of Cinco de Mayo. The project resulted in an educational documentary that was used shared this history with schools, the ASU community, and audiences across Arizona.

The HRC-produced DVD about the historical significance of the Cinco de Mayo and the Battle of Puebla was released in 2003.

The story continues within the Hispanic Research Center as we celebrate 40 years of impact!

Did you know? Former Hispanic Research Center Director Dr. Gary Francisco Keller dedicated more than three decades to expanding educational opportunities for underrepresented students.

As founder and editor of ASU’s Bilingual Press and a longtime professor of Spanish and Chicano studies, Dr. Keller helped shape many of the HRC's signature initiatives, including its nationally recognized Latino art collection. His legacy continues through the students, scholars, and programs he inspired.
