Architecture at ASU

Architecture at ASU Official page for the Architecture program within The Design School at Arizona State University.

We are engaged in a new paradigm for the teaching and research of design in the 21st century. Located within one of the nation’s largest and fastest growing universities and set in the context of one of the country’s most rapidly urbanizing metropolises, The Design School offers degrees in architecture, industrial design, interior design, landscape architecture, urban design, and visual communicat

ion (graphic) design. Our school brings together all of these design disciplines, with one unified faculty, working together to create a new vision of how we educate the next generation of designers. We are the most comprehensive and collaborative design school in the country. The Design School plays an important role within the context of the community it serves. As the largest professional design school in the region, we graduate future leaders in the design of the built environment whose work impacts the citizens and public realms of our rapidly urbanizing city. As a public professional school, we have a responsibility to contribute to the public good. Our success, and the success of our graduates, directly translates into a better future for the greater metropolitan area. The Design School brings together the expertise of architecture, industrial design, interior design, landscape architecture, urban design, visual communication design, and environmental science. We create knowledge and design futures through the synthesis and collaboration of these fields of study. The school’s collaborative structure fosters innovation through the integration of expertise among academic units, university-based research, and practitioners. As part of the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts (and the larger ASU community), the school educates designers and fosters research in all scales of the built environment: local, regional, national, and international.

Join us next week for a discussion with Architect, Martín Huberman will be delivering a talk about his work as the director of Estudio Normal in Buenos Aires, Argentina, as well as his internationally renowned work with curation, installations, and archiving -- which includes the Storefront for Art and Architecture (NYC), Espacio de Arquitectura (CDMX), the Canadian Center for Architecture (Montreal), and the Archive of Arq. Amancio Williams. Martín will describe his unique model of professional practice, tracing back to his time as a student in the Applied Research Collaborative (ARC) studio in The Design School at Arizona State University in 2007, to Estudio Normal's latest installation, which will be on exhibit at Coachella in April of 2022.

Our 500-level M.Arch students this semester were tasked with adaptive reuse and expansion of an existing building. This project proposes converting the US Embassy in Dublin, Ireland into a prototype for a vertical living machine, to address the significant CO2 issues in Dublin, and a unique hotel/hospitality experience for the surrounding businesses and destinations in the area.

Congratulations to Master of Architecture (M.Arch) alum, Olufela Joda, who graduate today! Fela came to Arizona State University with extraordinary skills and experiences, and has only grown and expanded those things since arriving in The Design School at ASU with us! Can't wait to see what Fela will do next, and throughout an exciting future career.

Olufela Joda graduates this month with a master’s degree in architecture, but he has no plans to limit his design aspirations to architecture alone.
