CACREP Accreditation: An Update from the School of Mental Health

Sonoran University's School of Mental Health is actively pursuing accreditation for its Clinical Mental Health Counseling program through the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). As part of this process, the program launched its inaugural cohort in spring 2025 – a key milestone required by CACREP and a significant step forward in the accreditation process.

We are committed to providing high-quality, evidence-based education to prepare qualified and compassionate mental health counselors who are ready to make a positive impact on the lives of others. Our program is designed to meet the rigorous standards set by CACREP, and we are confident that we will achieve accreditation. In the meantime, our program continues to offer a comprehensive and innovative curriculum, led by passionate and dedicated faculty with real-world experience and expertise.

Licensure requirements for clinical mental health counselors vary by state. Students must consult the licensing board for the state(s) where they intend to practice to understand specific licensure requirements.
