This event is a community-centered generative poetry workshop exploring migration, belonging and home. Through guided writing prompts, conversation, and creative reflection, participants will have the opportunity to share experiences, honor personal and collective histories and imagine new ways of connecting across differences.

This workshop welcomes people of all writing backgrounds and life experiences.

Together, we will explore how migration, movement, family, culture, language, and place shape our identities and communities. Participants will generate new poetry inspired by their own stories while listening to and learning from the experiences of others.

Aug. 14 is National Code Talkers Day. ASU Professor Emeritus Laura Tohe, the Arizona poet laureate, is the daughter of a Navajo Code Talker: "These men were willing to step up because many of them felt like it was their responsibility to serve."

Navajo Code Talkers are being honored in a longstanding national day of recognition. Thomas H. Begay is one of the last living Code Talkers and will be among those expected to gather Friday in Phoenix to honor their vital role in the outcome of World War II.
