MSD at The Design School

MSD at The Design School The Master of Science in Design program at ASU is committed to developing skills in Design Research to compliment and enhance one’s existing design skills.

On behalf of the faculty and staff of The Design School, I invite you to explore the exciting educational opportunities offered by the Master of Science in Design (MSD). The MSD is a research degree in design; it is not a mere extension of the undergraduate studio experience found in many master’s degrees in design. Consequently, it offers a different professional path, one meant for design studen

ts who wish to pursue an investigative career in design leading to discovery and development of intellectual capital. More than that, it is about what you want to do, not want you want to be. Four concentrations: Industrial Design, Interior Design, Visual Communication Design, and Healthcare and Healing Environments, provide in-depth knowledge and advanced research education in traditional, as well as emerging fields. The successful completion of the MSD positions the students to contribute to the advancement of academia, industry, government agencies, or NGOs. The MSD program is relatively small, a feature that enables faculty and staff to maintain a professional yet collegial atmosphere of care, service, and academic excellence. Please take the time to read the biographies of our excellent faculty members. I am sure you will agree that the varied experiences and research expertise of these academic leaders offer many exciting and enriching opportunities for your graduate education. While you are at it, also take a few moments to explore via our website the many features and benefits of being a student in the The Design School. If you have specific questions related to your advanced education, please contact us at [email protected]. The faculty, staff, and I wish you a successful educational journey. John H.
