The ASU Trombone Studio is a supportive community where students are encouraged and challenged to take initiative in pursuit of their musical aspirations. The trombone studio at ASU is driven by basic principles…

Ownership
As a student, you are expected to take ownership in the learning process. I can guide, explain, suggest, prod, and demonstrate but, in the end, the only person in that practice room day after day is you. Community
We are working together to serve something larger than ourselves. We can achieve more if we find ways to support each other. I want to have a strong trombone community at ASU. By harnessing our collective energy and creativity we can create a positive learning community for everyone. Professionalism

Two contras playing duets. Isn't that illegal in some states?

Proud teacher moment. In yesterday's audition for two spots in the Flagstaff Symphony, former DMA student Dan Nakazono won Principal Trombone and current MM student Dan Iverson was offered 2nd trombone for the season!

I love our studio duet project. It gives new students to collaborate with returning students. They pick their pieces and play for everyone. Nice variety.
Of course Tommy Pederson made an appearance with Whether Man and Pumpkin Eggs.
Also, L elisir d'amour, a Richard Fote duet, Verhelst Song for Japan, one of my duets from Melodious Trombone and one trio playing English Madrigal Suite arranged by Amy Dunker. Also an original 12-tone composition by one of the students!

A story in two photos. At ASU we just had placement auditions - always a fun experience (not).
Afterwards, the all got together at Chili's to celebrate/commiserate. Not something I organized either.
It's going to be a good year!
