Recently, EWB-RHIT hosted a Family Feud fundraiser to raise money for the gravity-fed pipeline project in Charguarloma, Ecuador. Students were delighted to participate in the in-person event after being held virtually last year. Teams of 4 or 5 members competed to answer Rose-Hulman themed questions the quickest. The tournament lasted a total of 3 hours and was filled with a bunch of friendly competition. The winning team received a Buffalo Wild Wings to celebrate their victory. To really make the event grand, Steve Harvey (played by an EWB-RHIT member) made an appearance during the fun filled night! EWB-RHIT already can not wait until next year’s Family Feud tournament.

We are currently making progress on our project in Ecuador. We have been designing a gravity-fed pipeline route that will deliver clean drinking water to the community in Chaguarloma, Ecuador. Currently, during club meetings, we are working on the formatting of the hydraulic analysis for the route. Our next implementation trip will operate remotely and will consist of surveying the rest of the pipeline route and constructing additions to the spring box and a gabion wall to prevent erosion to the existing structures. Later in 2022, we plan to have another implementation trip where we will construct the gravity-fed pipeline and collect additional survey data about the distribution route. Additionally, we will have multiple trips in the following years to implement the conveyance route, break tanks, a storage tank, and a distribution system.

Shout out to our amazing travel team who went to Ecuador this past week! They were able to construct an open spring box and gather more topography data to start planning the pipe route for the water distribution system for Chaguarloma!
