"Reclaiming Patriotism: What the Fight Against Fascism Can Teach Us Today"

Read Antonia Marie Cucchiara's blog post at Fordham University Press about her forthcoming book --Becoming Loyal Americans
The Movement to Reclassify Italian Alien Enemies during the Second World War--

" Becoming Loyal Americans provides a critical piece of political history about antifascist success to consider when thinking through this moment in the United States today, and across all liberal democracies wherein the notion of love of country is used as a partisan cudgel to determine loyalty and silence dissent."

How can patriotism be reclaimed from authoritarian movements? Antonia Marie Cucchiara examines the Italian American antifascist struggle to redefine loyalty, belonging, and love of country—and its lessons for democracy today.
