Fordham Welcomes Class of 2030, Second Largest in University’s History!

Fordham kicked off the academic year with the arrival of the second-largest class in University history—about 2,650 students representing nearly all U.S. states and more than four dozen countries, bringing breadth and depth of experience to the University community. The University also welcomed nearly 300 transfer students, its largest number to date.

Fordham faculty are pushing the boundaries of neuroscience.

Biology Professor Kaoutsar Nasrallah, PhD, and her student researchers just wrapped three years of work uncovering how the brain keeps fear memories in check and what happens when that system breaks down. Her lab discovered that a brain chemical called GABA doesn't just calm the nervous system through quick bursts, but also through a lesser-studied "tonic," or sustained, braking process that keeps fearful memories from generalizing into conditions like panic disorder, PTSD, and anxiety. It's exactly the kind of foundational research that can shape future treatments, and it's happening right here at Fordham.

This work also reflects what makes Fordham's research culture distinctive: undergraduates working side-by-side with faculty on real, publication-bound science. Junior biology major and Clare Boothe Luce scholar Zariyat Ahmed spent her summer

There is nothing quite like seeing our Fordham community grow stronger!

On July 1, we officially welcomed KerryAnn O’Meara, PhD, as our new Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs.

Dr. O'Meara is a nationally recognized scholar on academic careers and organizational change in higher education, having previously served in academic leadership at Teachers College, Columbia University, and the University of Maryland.

As she shared in a recent sit-down with Fordham Now, her own undergraduate liberal arts experience foundationalized her entire life, teaching, and leadership.
