🌟 GRANT RECIPIENT SPOTLIGHT! 🌟

Congratulations to Dr. Mistie Lasseigne and the dedicated team at Little Colonels Academy (LCA) on receiving funding through the Agenda for Children 2026 CCR&R SRTC Workforce ECHO Fund Grant! 🎉

This funding will support LCA’s continued efforts to address wage gaps and reduce financial strain for staff, helping strengthen employee retention, reduce turnover, and improve job satisfaction. By investing in the educators who guide and care for young children, this grant will help foster stronger relationships, more consistent care, and enhanced outcomes for the children and families LCA serves. ❤️

We are proud to celebrate Dr. Lasseigne and her team for their commitment to supporting both their staff and the children in their care!

🌟 GRANT RECIPIENT SPOTLIGHT! 🌟

Congratulations to Rissa Inselman, Instructor of Biological Sciences at Nicholls State University, on receiving funding from The Water Institute as part of a continued partnership with NOAA! 🌿🌊 Her work will support ecological monitoring of a 1,190-acre marsh creation project in the Upper Barataria Estuary.

🎉 Grant Recipient Spotlight 🎉

Congratulations to Dr. Bello Makama, Assistant Professor of Chemistry & Physical Sciences, on receiving funding through the Louisiana Board of Regents IGNITE Program!

Dr. Makama's project will develop innovative undergraduate organic chemistry laboratory experiences that combine green chemistry and sustainable energy. Students will gain hands-on research experience exploring biodiesel production from microalgae using oyster shell-derived catalysts while learning techniques to optimize catalyst performance and reaction efficiency.

This exciting collaboration with Dr. Naohiro Kato of Louisiana State University was recently featured in an ACS Spring 2026 press release and represents an important step forward in both STEM education and sustainable fuel innovation.

Last week, the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs had the pleasure of attending the 15th Annual ULS Academic Summit, hosted by Southeastern Louisiana University, with a WONDERFUL group of students.

Students were invited by their Deans to participate in this event based on their Scholars Expeaux submission. These students were able to showcase their research, creative, and scholarly activity to students and faculty across the University of Louisiana System!

Being selected to participate and represent Nicholls State in this event is a huge honor, and we are so proud of each and every one of these students!

Scholars Expeaux was an incredible success this year! 🎉

As Nicholls State University’s annual research and creative exposition, Scholars Expeaux showcases student and faculty work across a wide range of disciplines, including the Student and Faculty Poster Competition, Humanities Symposium, Performing Arts Showcase, Short Film & Animation Screenings, and Culinary Demonstrations.

This year brought a record-breaking number of participants in the Student Poster Competition, along with an amazing turnout across all events. Congratulations to our 36 student winners, and a sincere thank you to our judges, event organizers, event leaders, and donors for making it all possible.

Events like Scholars Expeaux continue to highlight the incredible work happening across campus and promote student research, creativity, and excellence!
