Our socials provide students with an encouraging and engaging environment in which to practice their typing, pointing, and spelling skills alongside their peers. Participants are to bring their own communication tools (e.g. alphabet stencils, letter boards, iPads, etc.) and communication partner.

The next In-person social will take place at 1-2pm on 5/24/26. These socials will follow the traditional ACC social format, including games and in-person communication support. The specific location for each social will be emailed to registrants closer to the date of the event.

Registration is required and free for all socials! https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSebRIoS0lRHaKEsfLmi1IPnfbyDtS1ttj1xRtV3KUEVHIw-LA/viewform?usp=header

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for donating to the Autism and Communication Center yesterday—you made it happen.

Together, we reached our $30,000 goal (just shy by $125, but we’re calling it even 🙂).

We are so grateful to the 65 donors who showed up to support us. Your generosity allows us to continue creating meaningful opportunities and support for neurodiverse individuals in incredible ways.

Sending each of you a big virtual hug—thank you.

The Autism and Communication Center is celebrating 10 years of excellence in services, support, community, and joy. 🤩 As we mark this milestone, we invite you to be part of what comes next. We need YOUR support this Wednesday, April 8th, during Cal Lutheran’s Cares Day to celebrate and sustain our programs. 💜

By helping us reach our $30,000 fundraising goal, your donation will help fund:

The opportunity for 50 autistic authors to contribute to and publish a second edition of the book Leaders Around Me—a powerful collection of autobiographical stories that educate the world about supporting autistic children and adults

An annual $5,000 college scholarship to CLU undergraduate students on the spectrum.

Free monthly communication socials for minimally speaking people on the spectrum and their communication partners

Leadership opportunities for autistic students to present at national conferences that support neurodiverse populations

Communication partner training to dozens of families and professionals

Workshops and seminars that cover essential support topics each semester.

The Gupta Foundation will generously match up to $15,000 for each dollar you contribute! We have 24 hours to reach our $30,000 goal on April 8th! 🎉

Join us for a webinar on Supporting Autistic Learners Who Are Nonspeaking or Minimally Speaking: What Every Parent Should Know, Wednesday, January 14, 4:00pm Pacific Time.

The webinar will bring clarity and guidance from three leading experts: Lisa Mihalich Quinn, founder and executive director of Reach Every Voice, Julie Sando, Director of Autistically Inclined, and Dr. Edlyn Peña, CEO of Dream Community Center and Director of the Autism & Communication Center at California Lutheran University. They will be talking about their book, Breaking Barriers for Nonspeaking Autistic Students: A Toolkit to Enhance Communication in Learning Environments.

Together, they’ll help parents understand and support autistic learners who use little or unreliable speech, including key concepts such as:

Presuming Competence: Why believing in a learner’s abilities changes what becomes possible.
Motor Differences & Apraxia: A simple, parent-friendly explanation of the brain–body disconnect that affects speech and movement.
Shifting From “Behavior” to Co-Regulation: How to interpret actions through a sensory–motor lens and support regulation, safety, and connection.
Communication as a Human Right: Why every learner needs consistent access to robust communication—not just choices or requests.
Where Literacy Fits In: How reading and writing support real communication and open academic opportunities.
