NURTURES at the University of Toledo

NURTURES at the University of Toledo NURTURES was developed with funding from the National Science Foundation. Programming has also been supported by the Department of Defense NDEP-STEM.

Current programming and research are funded by the Department of Education (award ). NURTURES is a partnership between the University of Toledo (education, engineering, and natural sciences disciplines), Northwest Ohio/Southeast Michigan public schools, daycare centers and nursery schools, informal science centers, and community resources, working to create a complementary, integrated

system of science education for preschool through third grade. NURTURES offers teacher professional development, classroom extension activities and family learning opportunities.

NURTURES was recently highlighted in UTNews' daily UToday feature! The article included comments by program founder and longtime Principal Investigator Charlene Czerniak discussing the program's recent $8 million Education, Innovation, and Research award via the Department of Education.

Researchers will rigorously evaluate the inquiry-based educational program benefiting children in primary grades as it launches in select communities in Georgia in 2026.
