Meet Annie Rutherford, our a Bachelor of Social Work student, who is turning personal challenges into purpose.

After being diagnosed with celiac disease, Annie returned to UToledo to pursue a career in social work. Today, she's using her experiences to advocate for others, build a supportive online community and appear in the upcoming documentary by the director of "Gluten is a Joke"

With the support of UToledo faculty, Annie is preparing to make a meaningful impact on the lives of individuals living with chronic illnesses while working toward her dream of opening a celiac center in Toledo.

We are proud to announce that Matt Bell, MSW, LSW, CIP, has been selected as the 2026 College of Health and Human Services Distinguished Alumnus!

A proud University of Toledo graduate, Matt has turned his personal journey into a mission of hope and healing. As Founder and CEO of Team Recovery, he has built one of Ohio's leading addiction treatment organizations, expanding access to recovery services while advocating for individuals, families and communities affected by substance use disorders.

Matt's leadership extends beyond Team Recovery through his service as Board Chair of the OneOhio Foundation, his work with Lucas Housing Services Corporation, and the Team Recovery Foundation. His commitment to servant leadership, innovation and community impact embodies the values of the College of Health and Human Services.

We look forward to honoring Matt during the University of Toledo Homecoming Gala on Friday, Oct. 9, where he will officially receive the 2026 College of Health and Human Services Distinguished Alumnus Award.

Congratulations, Matt, on this well-deserved recognition! We can't wait to celebrate with you.

Our Occupational Therapy (OTD) students had the opportunity to visit Whitehouse Primary School with program alumna Dr. Rachel Meinert, learning about the role of occupational therapists in school settings and how they support students' sensory needs and executive functioning.
Thank you to Dr. Meinert for sharing your expertise with our future OTs and Anthony Wayne Schools for making this experience possible. 🚀

Five weeks loaded with fun, creativity and learning! 🚀

This summer, eight campers joined our Communication Boot Camp, where they explored Camping, the High Seas, Space, the Wild West and Community Helpers, all while building communication, social and play skills. Guided by our dedicated SLP graduate student, each week was filled with hands-on learning, creativity and confidence-building.

A huge thank you to our campers, their families and our graduate students for making this summer unforgettable. Take a look at some of our favorite moments - We can't wait for next year!
