Our 3rd annual event, The K-9 Games brought together 14 incredible law enforcement K-9 teams from across the region for a day filled with competition, teamwork, and community!

These teams put their speed, agility, obedience, determination, and training on full display, which gave nearly 1,000 spectators an afternoon they won't soon forget.

But behind every incredible K-9 is a dedicated handler who puts in countless hours of training, patience, teamwork, and trust to build that partnership. We are incredibly grateful to every one of these teams for joining us and making The K-9 Games such a success!

When a mental health need is identified during a call for service, co-responders may join law enforcement and EMS at the scene. They help deescalate the situation, connect the individual with appropriate resources and determine the best course of care.

Johnson County law enforcement agencies have worked with co-responders since 2011. Since inception, Johnson County has grown to 23 co-responder and two crisis case manager positions. In 2025, they provided nearly 27,455 interventions, with nearly 4,300 responding alongside law enforcement to serve people in crisis on a call for service.

Thank you to the Johnson County Mental Health Center co-responders who assist agencies throughout the county, especially Kim and Chelsea who work directly with our Patrol Division and respond to calls in our jurisdictions, along with Gardner PD, Spring Hill PD and Park PD.

Congratulations, Mike! ⭐️

Please Join Us in Congratulating Mike Kelly on His Promotion to EAI Special Agent Supervisor at Ellsworth Correctional Facility!

Mike began his career in 2008 at Hutchinson Correctional Facility as a Corporal serving on the Special Security Team (SST), Special Operations Response Team (SORT), and as a K-9 Officer. He was promoted to Sergeant in 2015 continuing his role as a K-9 Officer certifying 4 single purpose K-9’s and 1 dual purpose K-9, which has since retired and is now living the good life at home with Mike. Mike’s dedication to his work was recognized by his peers by being nominated President for the Kansas Police Dog Association spanning a period of 4 years, overseeing 40-50 KPDA members. In 2022, Mike was promoted to EAI Special Agent and transferred to ECF where he has been serving since.

Please take the time to congratulate him and show him support in his new role. Congratulations, Mike!
