welcomes our newest member, Maram Soden, from the Beta Eta Xi Chapter at Cloud County Community College-Geary County! Maram is the President of the Kansas/Nebraska Region of Phi Theta Kappa, making her the highest-ranking PTKAW member in history; she is transferring to Washburn full-time this fall but enrolling for one class this spring. Happy birthday 🎂 to living legend, the Prim Reaper, Kyann Nicole Eslick, ba '19, one of 's all-time greats! The standard against which all members are held! 💪 Not only our President, but a Renaissance Woman of innumerable talents: volleyball star at Ulysses High and Hutchinson Community College; 2018 Miss Santa Fe Trail and 2nd Runner-up at Miss Kansas; President of Christian Challenge; among so many other accomplishments. Scholar, athlete, model, coach, businesswoman, and most of all, a friend to those of us privileged to know her: 💙 she did it all while with us and continues to do so after Washburn University.

⚡ MEMBER SPOTLIGHT! ⚡ Today we feature our Vice President for Membership, Audrey Shepherd, Senior in Security Administration 💻 with a Minor in Digital Forensics 💿, and alumna of the Alpha Xi Upsilon Chapter at Garden City Community College 🏇, from Garden City, Kansas, by way of Aurora, Colorado! At Garden City, where she graduated with High Honors, Audrey was recognized for completing over 100 volunteer hours for Department of Public Safety Criminal Justice Program, received the Linda Morgan Standard of Excellence Award 🏆, and was active with Big Brothers Big Sisters. At Washburn she received the Transfer at PTK Scholarships. Audrey has represented PTKAW at the Trunk or Treat at Family Service & Guidance Center 🍬🍭🍫, shot promo photos/videos for the Shoe Drive 👢👢, and this year wrote and sent all our recruiting outreach to incoming Alumni via e-mail and text. Best of all, Audrey is sharing her PTKAW journey with her , Diana Martinez-Ponce, Vice President for Digital Media: best friends through middle school, straight through high school and GCCC, now roommates at Washburn and serving PTKAW as officers together! 🤜🤛💕We love you both, ladies, and thank you so much for all you do for PTKAW! 😀💙

⚡ MEMBER SPOTLIGHT! ⚡ Today we feature Paul Borcherding, Senior in Music Education and an alumnus of the Tau Eta Chapter at Allen Community College, from Rossville, Kansas! Paul is an accomplished flutist 👏; his musical resume includes: Iola Community Orchestra; Allen CC Jazz Band, Concert Band, and Concert Choir; and Washburn Marching Band and Symphony Orchestra, where he became the 2nd PTKAW member to perform in the Washburn Holiday Vespers Concert 👍 (after Charlee Bonczkowski, choir, 2016). Some of his other accomplishments from Allen: student senator; worked for the Allen Flame 🔥 student newspaper; Thrive Allen County, including helping construct a “Pocket Park” in Iola and organizing the Clean-up La Harpe project; organized a Pink-out for Breast Cancer Awareness at an Allen Basketball game; helped create the PTK float for Farm Days in Iola. In 2019, Paul was one of Tau Eta's 2 nominees for the All-Kansas Community College Academic Team 🎖! We are of how Paul's flute, and his hard work, have carried him so far, and can't wait to see where he goes from here! In PTKAW, having a first name like that gets you far. ⚡ MEMBER SPOTLIGHT! ⚡ Today we feature Sami Brown, Senior in Biology 🔬, Psychology📙, and Pre-medicine 👩‍🔬...[panting] let's take a minute to catch our breath on that one because that's just a quaint way of saying SHE IS A GENIUS 🧠 👀 😄...and an alumna of the Beta Omega Chapter at Independence Community College ⚓, from Mound Valley, Kansas! At ICC, Sami was the chapter President at Independence, joining Thiana Jensen, Natasha Manning, Daniel Martin, and Chelsey Johnston as the only chapter presidents in PTKAW; she participated in the 2019 PTK Convention for ICC, where our members somehow did not scare her from joining PTKAW 😋. After she joined us, she has represented us at the Trunk or Treat🍭🍬, and the PTK Convention this year! She is also active in Washburn Leadership Institute, Biology Club, Best Buddies, and Christian Challenge. We are so grateful to have Sami representing us now and in the future, and we know she has some leadership roles coming her way! 😊👍

There will obviously be no Trunk or Treat at Family Service & Guidance Center this year; however, 's Trevor McDaniel led an effort to help children served by FSGC in a different way, collecting donations of treats to provide children while participating in FSGC's programs. Read more about it here. Way to go, Trevor, and thanks to Pam Evans and Jim Williamson of FSGC for continuing to partner with us. 🍫

Huge thanks to Trevor and Teagan -- pictured here with Director of Marketing & Development Pam Evans -- and all the outstanding members of Phi Theta Kappa Alumni of Washburn! They assembled fun treat bags for kids in our Early Childhood Intervention Center therapeutic preschool and Youth Development Program.

This Halloween is going to be like none before it, so we hope parents and guardians everywhere are taking advantage of the many safe, healthy Halloween options available in our community!

⚡ MEMBER SPOTLIGHT! ⚡ Today we feature Maggie Bott, Senior in Radiologic Technology and an alumna of the Upsilon Tau Chapter at Cloud County Community College ⚡, from Palmer, Kansas! At Cloud, Maggie was on the President's Honor Roll all 3 semesters she attended🏆, following in the footsteps of 's Miranda Mansfield by taking advantage of Cloud's high school concurrent enrollment program. She was a standout student athlete at Linn High School in volleyball 🏐, basketball🏀, and track 🏃‍♀️. She was an NCK All-Star in volleyball ⭐ and holds 4 career school top-10 records in track 👟. She will be our first ever graduate in Radiologic Technology 📘, and we are of her! Follow her on [maggie_bott]

⚡ MEMBER SPOTLIGHT! ⚡ Today we feature Vice President for Development Shela Pierre Noel, Senior in Elementary Education and an alumna of the Alpha Iota Gamma Chapter at Johnston County Community College, from Lawrence, Kansas, by way of Croix des Bouqets, Haiti! Shela played basketball and soccer at Bishop Seabury Academy and sang in the choir. At Johnson County, she was selected to the Dean’s Honor Roll and President’s List and volunteered for the Clear Program. She is participating in the Washburn Leadership Faith and Workshop Series and won the Washburn Diversity Scholarship. She has represented PTKAW at our Trunk or Treat, hanging promo flyers for our events, and helped make promo videos for the Shoe Drive.
