We're excited for our upcoming workshop with artist Becki Waugh on Saturday, October 24, 1-3pm! She will lead participants through the process of creating a watercolor and ink artwork, from being inspired by the waterways around us to sketching and applying watercolor. Physics Professor and Chair Karen Camarda manages many details for the free annual Women in Science Day for Topeka 7th graders. This year's event, held on Oct. 5, welcomed a record 330 students to campus for a day of labs, networking, and a quiz show.
Camarda keeps track of the finances, assigns girls to labs based on their preferences and lab availability, and oversees all activity at the Memorial Union on the day of the event. Camarda jumps in wherever needed, so her tasks shift from year to year. This year, she recruited speakers from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and contacted the Topeka Zoo to request and coordinate bringing some ambassador animals to the Memorial Union for the girls to see during check-in.
