Over the past two weeks our office has given out our two annual awards. The first award we gave out is our Commitment to Careers Award. This award recognizes student organizations, athletic teams, and campus departments who engage with our office to promote career readiness for our students. There is a plaque in the Career Engagement Office where these entities are recognized.
The Student Organization recognized for their Commitment to Careers is We Are F1rst!
- We Are F1rst has worked with the Career Engagement Office in several ways over the last school year. Through encouraging their members to participate in existing career events like the Simulated Career Fair (new in fall 2025) and larger career fairs and collaborating on a new event â FirstGen Coffee Talks. The FirstGen Coffee Talks event brought together first-gen professionals from the Topeka community to share information about their career path and offer guidance to current first-gen students at WU. This organization has gone above and beyond to show their commitment to the future careers of their members! Thank you, We Are F1rst!
The Campus Department recognized for their Commitment to Careers is the Aleshire Center for Leadership and Community Engagement.
- The Aleshire Center professional and student staff has collaborated with the Career Engagement Office in many ways over the past year. Their professional staff dedicate many volunteer hours to the all-majors career fairs every year. In the past year, their staff partnered with us to launch the first ever Bods Volunteer Fair. On top of that, our office has been invited to present career development topics in many of the Bonner, Community Engagement, and Leadership classes. For these reasons, the Aleshire Center for Leadership and Community Engagement is the departmental recipient of the Commitment to Careers award. Thank you, Aleshire Center!
