On this 25th anniversary of 9/11, Parnassus Books offers literary balm, for the many still open wounds of that day.
Today’s staff rec spotlight commemorates the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. Treva recommends reading Jim DeFede’s The Day the World Came to Town. Here’s what she had to say about the book:
“On September 11, 2001, when the unimaginable happened, air travel over the United States was shut down. The small town of Gander, Newfoundland welcomed more than 35 planes bound for US destinations. But the people didn’t just allow the planes to come in; they opened their homes and businesses and showed unbelievable hospitality to the passengers. If you need your faith in humanity restored, this is the book for you.”
There is so much to mourn on this anniversary, and there is also cause to acknowledge the glimpses of kindness and humanity shown on that terrible day. Get a copy of the book at the link in the comments below.
