Students pursuing a bachelor’s degree at El Camino College will be seeing clearer requirements as the college updates its policies to meet new state regulations overseeing community college baccalaureate programs.

The Academic Senate discussed the revisions on Administrative Procedure 4025B and Board Policy 4025B on Tuesday, Nov. 19, in the Distance Education Conference Center.

AP 4025B and BP 4025B outline how ECC creates, maintains and approves its bachelor degree programs, including outlining coursework expectations within upper division classes, general education requirements and overall curriculum standards.

The updates are in light of the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office new regulations to Title 5, which relates to Community College Baccalaureate Degree Programs and their higher education regulations according to their website.

ugar plum fairies and toy soldiers will not take center stage at El Camino College in December as the company behind the longtime tradition is pivoting to a smaller production this season, the director said.

Artistic Director Elijah S. Pressman said Ballet California, which has produced “The Nutcracker” performances since 2004 and at the Marsee Auditorium since 2005, has seen a roughly 50% decrease in dancers due to internal changes.

“We are doing a small, members-only production this year,” Pressman said. “We love the Marsee and would certainly like to be there in the future.”

Pressman said that the whole organization is adapting to the planned retirement of Diane Lauridsen, founding director emeritus, and that dancers left amid the transition to secure memberships at other companies.

Outdated equipment including computers, docking stations and printers across El Camino College will be replaced by 586 new technological devices in select faculty offices and classrooms, campus officials said.

The El Camino Community College District Board of Trustees approved the purchase of new HP Chromebooks, HP desktops, HP docks, HP monitors, iMacs, adapter cables, Dell docking stations and printers at their meeting Tuesday, Nov. 18.

The purchases cost $368,892.46 and will be paid using ECC’s Fund 41.

“I think keeping up with technology just overall and having the kinds of machines that our students need to stay on top of the most cutting edge and newest software is critically important,” Vice President of Academic Affairs Carlos Lopez said.

Residents and community groups are split over Los Angeles Metro’s proposed South Bay project, which agency officials said will extend light rail train service from the Redondo Beach Station to the new Torrance Transit Center.

“This is an important project for the South Bay, but also for the region in connecting people across Los Angeles to schools including El Camino [College]… Students would be able to easily come from various parts of the region,” Georgia Sheridan, Metro senior director of mobility corridors, said.

While the project would bring light-rail transportation to Torrance, many Lawndale residents have voiced safety and environmental concerns if Metro’s board of directors approve it.

“Not only will we lose our biggest source of public trees and grass, but we, as residents, will be exposed to the environmental and safety externalities and harms of this project: Tree removal, lots of noise, toxic dust and extreme proximity to family homes,” April Owens, a former ECC student and Lawndale resident, said.

John Hall, who has coached track and field at ECC since 2013, was selected in October to lead El Camino College’s new women’s flag football program.

Hall is coaching the collegiate sport for the first time and is recruiting students to join the team, which will begin in spring 2026 and use uniforms, play other colleges and travel.

“I really enjoy the finesse aspect of the flag football game, and I think it’s a beautiful art of the game with the capacity to remove the violence from it,” Hall said. “It’s a great, I think, opportunity to feature women athletes.”

There are no strict eligibility requirements for students interested in women’s flag football as the California Community College Athletic Association has not yet approved the sport.
