Tougaloo College proudly congratulates Dr. Bonita R. Coleman on her appointment as Interim Superintendent of the Canton Public School District.

A proud Tougaloo College alumna and former member of the Tougaloo faculty, Dr. Coleman brings more than three decades of experience in education to this new role, including 10 years of distinguished service as Superintendent of the Ocean Springs School District.

Her continued commitment to education and leadership reflects the legacy of Tougaloo graduates who are making an impact in communities across Mississippi and beyond.

This is why Tougaloo produces the researchers, mentors, and leaders our community needs. This week, we're celebrating faculty member Dr. Lawren Long, faculty member, who has been selected for the Thurgood Marshall College Fund's 2026 Faculty Research Seminar in Washington, D.C.

The strategies and connections made will strengthen research capacity right here on our campus. When our faculty grow, our students grow. That's the ripple effect of supporting Tougaloo.

Woodworth Chapel turns 125 this year. Its walls have heard more history than most places ever will. 💙❤️

Tougaloo's chapel became a gathering place for people who believed Mississippi could change: Bob Moses. Medgar Evers. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Fannie Lou Hamer.

Today, Woodworth Chapel hosts Voices for a Just World — welcoming voices like Angela Davis and Marc Lamont Hill.

As President Wiggins said at this year's Convocation: "History is not simply a story about the past. It is a story about what one generation leaves for another."

We're a Top 10 private HBCU, the only Mississippi school on Forbes' list. 🦅
