From our seats at Makan Pakai Tangan, we were transported across continents to Southeast Asia. What began as a simple tasting experience quickly blossomed into a full feast, as we immersed ourselves in the rich cultural tradition of eating with our hands. Along the way, we discovered the sacred symbolism of mountains that inspires the iconic Nasi Tumpeng, deepening our appreciation for both the dish and its meaning. The session offered more than just food; it was a hands-on journey filled with meaningful conversations about culture, etiquette, and shared experiences that everyone carried with them. Special thanks to Artha Rini for the beautifully prepared Nasi Tumpeng, and to Mohammad Rohaizad Suaidi for his insightful guidance into the practice of Makan Pakai Tangan. If you missed this experience, there’s still time to take part in exciting programs before Asia North 2026 comes to a close.

We walked the streets of K‑Town, learned the stories behind its murals, and visited beloved Korean food spots that anchor the neighborhood. A drumming performance set the tone for an evening of powerful storytelling; from first memories of arriving in America to the ongoing work of building and preserving community. Mr. Lee captured the spirit of the day and a shared vision of “Baltimore being a gateway to the global market.” A celebration of heritage, resilience, and the future of Baltimore Koreatown.
